Extend The SSML 2013/14 Season

Recommended Posts

:soapbox:

By at least two weeks it has to be done ?

A lot of SSML clubs ground share and then you have reserve and youth games to be played pitches wont be able to recover in time for the next game at this rate.

Get rid of all the red tape and do the right thing.

People have jobs and many won't be able to do tues, thurs and Saturday to the end of the season and teams who have a chance of winning a title or promotion may have that detailed through no fault of their own because they won't be able to field their players in a fixture pile up. Season must be extended.

For what its worth, absolutely.

Even higher up the chain, clubs have the same problem.

In the Southern Premier, Poole Town have ten games in hand, that is ludicrous.

More locally, as has been said, it will hurt teams to presume that players and volunteers can arrange three games a week. Till the end of the season.

I don't agree, we have not had any of our games called off due to rain, you can't move the goalposts half way through the  season, last year Oxhey jets played 3-4 games a week at the end of the season, to change it this season would be unfair to them.Clubs at this level should have the ground staff to cope with rain. Anyway you only have to look at  some of the games 20-30 years ago, today games are called off too soon. In my opinion.

Agreed games are called off to away but 20-30 years ago winters were not wet like they have been in recent years. As for ground staff for clubs at this level I can't agree, it's local(ish) amatuer football that for the most part is run on passion and goodwill (of a few individuals) these aren't peoples jobs or even part time jobs, it isn't semi professional and shouldn't be judged as such. Of course for clubs like yourselves and one or two others looking to progress up things may be a bit different but that isn't the standard across this step of football.

A number of Step 5 and Step 6 Leagues have approached the FA with a request to a week's extension to the season as soon as we get a reply I will post update.

That's good to hear as this weather does not seem to be going any where soon so more games will get called off no doubt.

I have to admit, extending the season midway through is moving the goalposts, and in future these decisions should be made before the begining if the season.

However, due to the current circumstances I think it it absolutely necessary to extend the season. It cannot be expected for some clubs to play Tuesday, Thursday every week.

Why would you extend the season to begin with? The idea of extending is as a reaction to a circumstance nobody could have forseen. As for teams less affected what are the negatives for them? I guess people may be on holiday but not many do at the start of may.

Neutral, Oxhey jets did it last year.

Just because a team did it last season is no reason to repeat a mistake. It didn't work out well for Oxhey which shows it isn't the way to go. There doesn't appear to be anywhere near as many negatives with extending v not extending. Groundshares cause problems for sure, nobody could forsee this weather even if there were other problems in previous years as someone has said, yes last year it snowed but this year it hasn't. 3 and 4G are looking more and more like the only way to go. Perhaps the league should look at a winter break and just assume that teams are going to struggle over this period?

Sorry, I mean the possibility of an extended season needs to be confirmed before the Start of the season.

Rather than simply deciding what the best course of action is to take based upon the opinions of those in high places, an objective condition is placed on it.

For example;

Rather than assessing the situation and allowing for a week, the season is extended for a period of time correspondent to how many games have been postponed based on mathematic rule/formula.

Make sense?

The fixtures are not geared to successful teams and that is the problem. The leagues at our level are too big, 22 team leagues for people that go to work everyday is just plan silly. Level 5 is run by volunteers and the FA seem not to understand this. The professional clubs have only to think of themselves where all of us do a day job and the do the second job of running football clubs.

There is too much football. Leagues of 18 teams, one league cup and one county cup is really enough. My club plays 52 league games plus we enter 7 other cup competitions. So we will play a minimum of 49 games from August to April, i.e. 9 months which is around 40 weeks. which means 9 midweek games, if we win all of the cup games it is then 16 midweek games. This does not take account of the weather where we nearly always lose some weeks to EVERY season.

The League season will NOT be extended and it may mean some sides playing for or five games a week, as Guernsey did in the CCL last season.

The issue is a combination of the weather, ground shares and successful Cup runs - although the latter is exacerbated by entering a ridiculous number of cup competitions.

Using Hanwell Town as an example - and this is not a criticism of them, just that they, like Guernsey last year, are having successful cup runs - they entered six Cup Competitions, and still have a minimum of twenty-three games to play.

This means they have to play at least two games per week until the end of the season, and that assumes they lose every cup game!!

All sorted by playing midweek games all

Through august September and October. Even start the season a week or so earlier. We dredge through weeks of pre season which at our level

Is unnecessary. We could just train more than twice a week in the summer to prepare and not play 7-8 friendlies. Two thirds of the season could be competed by December and then virtually have a winter break. I wish non league had its own governing body and wasn't dictated to by the fa.
