Big J R
It's all fixed in my opinion. It's not if you can act/direct, but WHO you know, (or sleep with !!)
Rhodes
The quality of the nominated films don’t appear to be of a particular high standard this year do they, has anybody seen any of them
Big J R
I watched the BAFTA's last night. So much more relaxed and human than the OSCAR's. Stephen Fry's presentation was superb.
Rhodes
Big J R - Do you think the BAFTA's on Sunday were a good indication of what's to come at the Oscar's in two weeks time, somehow I don't think so and I'll be surprised if the depressing '12 Years A Slave' wins a thing
Big J R
Not too sure, Rhodsey. The OSCAR's dont usually 'follow' the BAFTA's lead.
Rhodes
Big J R - Yes, that's what I'm suggesting so hopefully the mind numbing '12 Years A Slave' won't win anything
Big J R
I haven't seen it. Not my type of film. 'Roots' and the like are NOT for me , I'm afraid. 'Gravity' has to be the film of the year just for the special (British) effects.
Rhodes
'Roots' and the like are NOT for me, I'm afraid. I quite liked Roots

Rhodes
So what did we think folks, what a night and, unsurprisingly, '12 Years A Slave' failed miserably
Loose
Managed to almost completely ignore the 2014 BoreFest. I say almost because one snippet caught my ear. That the 1,500 guests were all recipients of $55,000 goody bags. Astonishingly that means that sponsors spent at least $82,500,000 on these pampered, largely talentless lumps of lard. It's so good to know that they were rewarded for showing up when 1 in 7 US citizens are living below the Poverty Line - that's 44 million americans. Go USA! Horace
So what did we think folks, what a night and, unsurprisingly, '12 Years A Slave' failed miserably Am I missing something here? Didn't 12 Years a Slave win Best Picture?
Rhodes
Horace - Yes but the film was expected to do a Titanic and Lord of the Rings and sweep the board wasn't it: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oscar-winners-2014-full-list-results-86th-academy-awards-kodak-theater-684748
