OldTowner
No one can tell what this afternoons weather will be like. Sun and light showers forecast. Reading various tweets etc it would appear that the pitch is/would be okay. Also the Lewes Manager confirms that if asked, they were happy to travel and take the chance. So, game off due to ref not wanting too risk it some 6 hours before kick off time. Ref's decision stands, but should a bit of common sense not have prevailed ? We'll done to all the supporters who worked all Thursday, Friday, Friday night and Saturday morning to try and get the game on. Heroes, All. Steph
Ot I did not see the pitch so, perhaps, I am not the one to comment. It seems to me that if it was playable in the morning it would not have been playable at 3:00 due to the further rain that occurred. However I do hope the ref did not call it off due to the weather that was forecasted. I would also like to add that while standing water was removed there must have been in many places deep mud which would have made the game a complete farce, if not dangerous. andyetfc
And, it may have ruined the pitch for the immediate future. Who knows what the outcome would have been. However, well done to the guys who worked on the pitch. How soon will it be before clubs are asking for an extension to the league end date so they do not have to play three games in a week? CD Towner
It happens year after year. Yet the months of September, October and November are relatively free of midweek fixtures. It's ridiculous.
Part Time Par
However I do hope the ref did not call it off due to the weather that was forecasted. Some advice to referees found from a refereeing website: We have to get some knowledge of the weather prior to arrival at the ground. A good way to do this is to have some proof. Print out the weather chart from the Internet before setting off on your journey. Also the Lewes Manager confirms that if asked, they were happy to travel and take the chance. So, game off due to ref not wanting too risk it some 6 hours before kick off time. No doubt he was happy to risk it, nightmare coming up to play on a Tuesday night now. But would the Chairman wanted to have risked it, another coach payout if they got there and were turned back. Would you lot, as supporters, been happy to risk a trip down there in similar circumstances? It happens year after year. Yet the months of September, October and November are relatively free of midweek fixtures. It's ridiculous. Agreed, but I guess the problem is you cannot have full league programmes the midweeks after FA Cup / Trophy Games. There is also nearly always a free Saturday the round after all teams enter the FA Cup, so if you get knocked out in that 1st game you are sat twiddling your thumbs on a Saturday when the weather is lovely
CD Towner
Why not have them the midweek after FA cup and trophy games and then just postpone them if a replay arises?
Part Time Par
Why not have them the midweek after FA cup and trophy games and then just postpone them if a replay arises? Because that is far too sensible an idea!
Arkwright
Why not just have smaller leagues, ie 20 teams & 38 league games, minimalise the impact of having games called off???

Arkwright, that's not how empires are built, certainly at this level! It's all quantity over quality.
Eastside Urchin
I think 20 teams per league is enough, unless they get rid of the league cup and any other silly cup competitions
