Game v Aylesbury

Slough Kitman

Recommended Posts

So everyone knows,

No rain for the last 2.5 days, some rain earlier today, with no rain expected until light rain from 8 pm.

So no pitch inspection planned, I will be at the ground about 3-30.

But I don't want to put this up earlier so the attendance will not be affected, also the stone is dry.

Just so you know the last bit was a joke!

So won 2-0, not exactly a classic but we ground out another win on a wet Tuesday night. Two excellent finishes from Warren Harris.

Looked solid at the back and largely dominated without working the keeper too much,

Job done, COYR

Weather affected game with Slough clearly the better team.Thought Adam Foulser and Darren Wheeler were Slough's best players on the night.

Think Aylesbury looked like a team that hadn't played for a month.Thankfully Jerome Anderson and Sean Sonner looked well out of sorts and Jake Somerville had a very easy night.

Aylesbury's best players on the night to me was Sam Bateman and Bradley Watkins.

I'm glad Slough got the 3 points obviously but I'm surprised Aylesbury on the night was so naff.

Not the prettiest game of football I've ever seen but another much needed 3 points. Wazza and Wheels superb all game. No disrespect to Aylesbury but in better conditions I think we win that game a bit more comfortably than we did, however they were knocking on the door at 1-0 so the second goal was a big relief. COYR!

May have to be more like that---grinding out results rather than playing expansive football.

So good result in atrocious conditions and and another clean sheet that helps goal difference

Up to third, albeit a little artificially but points are always better than games in hand.

I hope NGU pitch is playable Saturday so we can maintain momentum while most of the squad is fit and available

On the injuries front, I noticed Adam Cornell limping a bit in the first and second half and Rummy also.

Both Adam and Rummy will both be fine, Rummy took a whack just before half time, and it seized up a bit.

Very tough conditions for the lads last night, in swirling winds etc.... so a good win.

Though Foulser was top draw again, as a defender it is very tough to defend properly for 90 minutes in those conditions, but I thought his concentration was excellent, and he made a number of very important tackles... at the same time the other 3 defenders also did really well, and it gives us a very solid back 4 (with Guy to come back in).

3 wins on the bounce now, unfortunately the teams around us vying for the play-offs also keep winning.

It can't continue though, if you agree that there are nine teams in contention for the title or the play-offs and look at the remaining fixtures they have all got at least 5 games to come against fellow contenders and some have as many as 7 or 8. Inevitably all the teams will drop some points amongst those games and then you don't even count wet Tuesday nights against Brook House, Uxbridge, Egham, Marlow, St Ives etc all potential banana skins.

All we can do is keep grinding out performances and picking up the points and lets not worry about anyone else.

I just hope Saturday is on, as another advantage of having played a few more games is at least we only have to do Saturday, Tuesday others will soon be playing three games in a week.

Love them or hate them, the playoffs certainly keep things interesting.

Agreed on this!

Just led me to have a look at the remaining games.

Taking into account the 9 teams (Dunstable, Rugby, Daventry, Royston, Beaconsfield, Northwood, Barton Kettering and ourselves) and leaving out Aylesbury United who can also get into the mix with their games in hand, and could also have a big hand in who makes play offs etc the following is how many games each team has to play against a top 9 team (current standings) and how many home and away:

Northwood - 5 (4 home 1 away)

Slough - 5 (3 home 2 away)

Rugby - 5 (3 home 2 away)

Beaconsfield 5 (2 home 3 away)

Daventry - 6 (4 home 2 away)

Dunstable - 6 (1 home 5 away)

Kettering - 7 (3 home 4 away)

Royston - 7 (2 home 5 away)

Barton - 8 (5 home 3 away)

Make of that what you want... but all I know is there are a lot of points still to be dropped with the amount of games left to be played.

I agree that Captain Foulser was immense last night. Yes, Wazza stole the headlines with the goals but for a defender last night's conditions were about as difficult as you can get. Being on the mic I have to stay at the shed end so witnessed close up the fantastic goal saving tackle he put in on the edge of the box in the first half.
