I ask the following, not to purposely start a debate / argument, just a genuine question...

So, out of interest, for a 'small' club like Beaconsfeild with no budget / support etc ... how comes they tend to find players who consistantly play well at this level year after year?

So its not all about money, surely?

Unfortunately, they do have a budget, curtesy of Slough Town.

OK, then putting cards on the table here, if we are funding their budget, they seem to be using it well.....

Should we be doing better with ours?

Who's got the bigger budget? no one knows except the people concerned.

Also, there is not a lot between us and SYCOB in the league, maybe just a couple of wins.

No, Im not saying whos got the 'bigger' budget, you mentioned that we are 'funding' their budget. Whether it be bigger (which would surprise me) or smaller than ours (as you say, only the people concerned know this for sure), they consistantly over the recent years have been using (whatever budget costs they have) their funds well. Surely, even the most biased Slough fan has to admit that.

I'm just asking (maybe out of frustration) is that, if a club like Beaconsfield can find little gems of players, then surely we should too?

Also, there is not a lot between us and SYCOB in the league, maybe just a couple of wins.

3 points plus game in hand (possibly making it 6 points), then theres the other teams who have more games in hand that concerns me. I know its all ifs and buts, but IF the other teams win their games in hand, we will be nowhere near the play offs.

Just saying....

This is what I think.

Beaconsfield In the 2006–07 season, they finished bottom of Division One South & West and were relegated. In season 2007/8 we came to Beaconsfield and they improved to what we see today.

So yes I think the money we give them has a great deal to do with were they are now.

This is not a dig at anyone Beaconsfield done what anyone would do in there position, use all things at hand to keep going.

Beccy play as a team , work hard for each other and all of them play hard for 90 minutes......we know we have the odd player who is classed as a luxury.....doing something good then disappearing for half an. hour etc

Keen supporter that I am, I find it hard to say that we always see our  team working hard for each other.......even harder to say that all of them always give 90 minutes of effort

Overall there is no doubt that position for position we have the better players and on the face of it not many of Sycob would get into our team but the run of results doesnt lie.

Wonder what Mr Meakin says to his team before games cos it seems to work !

We can still make those play offs but have to really work for it

One thing no one has mentioned in this debate, is the weight of expectation at both teams.

Beaconsfield are a club with little history in the non-league game as a whole, thus they have no pressure put on them by fans [not that they have many!]and so can play with freedom and the players seem to do well when being picked up by SYCOB.

The club obviously has a committee and small band of volunteers who rally around the players and management to create a unique team spirit.Their chairman has been shrewd in getting the right manager in,too. Gary Meakin was an excellent choice to replace James Pritchard.

Slough on the other hand, have history and pedigree in non-league football and have been in the top pile of clubs over the years. Most fans believe we should be playing higher than we are. Under Martin Deaner's chairmanship we employed too many manager's[many who were ex-players] who had no experience of managing.

Since Steve Easterbrook arrived as chairman,we've have turned things around as a club ,on the pitch and off it, from when Slough really were struggling in the relegation places, due to his appointment of Steve Bateman, who steadied the ship and got the team back around the promotion places.

Both Steve's need commending for doing this.

I think Steve Easterbrook from a loyalty perspective, probably gave Steve Bateman, one season too many,in his efforts to get Slough promoted,as it appeared Steve Bateman ideas on the money needed, his style/tactics of football and some of his choices of the type of player Slough needed at the club started to look suspect.

Apart from Terry Brown,I feel the club have made the right appointments with our new joint managers, who given the time and perhaps, the budget Steve Bateman had[if rumours are true that it is a lot lower than SB got] then I think we finally have the managers capable of getting Slough promoted. Whether it will be this season is a big ask.

So RebelAndBlues, this debate isn't as clear cut as you assume, given Slough's standing and Beaconsfield's rise from nowhere.

readingrebel   that's a reference to thread 11  he means that we also find little gems of players

I read that a different way from you.  I read it as to do with budget.

Mark44 If it is why do you think it's bigger?

Hence taking thing the wrong way with the written word.

Was definitely to do with finding little gems, I have no idea on budgets and certainly no idea on other teams.

I think we do find little gems, for example warren Harris, i think fans of other local clubs could ask why they do not find gems such as warren the same way we sometimes pick out players from Sycob or burnham or alike.

I think it's a common theme across football at our level that you see a player have a good game and think "wow why can't we sign him" but before looking at what we have which IMO is usually just as good,
