Rebels Radio!

Deleting people's posts is a little bit pathetic really.

I really hope his posts havn,'t been deleted without good reason by the moderator?

That is a flagrant breach of rules, the posts were not insulting or offensive, the mod just didn't personally like them.

Tom did reply to me personally to be fair.

I think that there is an element of immaturity and insecurity involved possibly because he perhaps feels threatened.

I have a lot of sympathy with volunteers  who put a lot of time in to help, I'm one myself.

the help offered, and that was the point of my post, would in fact empower him, not threaten.

it would help to get better results for the effort that he does put in.

Tom, there is a difference between IT Skills and Marketing skills..

Marketing is about presentation, the ability to sell, good communication and using all the avenues available to get a message out.

Suggesting that Rebels Radio means that you might as well close the Twitter account is a little silly to be frank.

As I said in my post that you deleted, only 0.22% of the Slough population attend matches and I suspect very few are more than vaguely aware of the clubs existence if at all.

ANY opportunity to broadcast a shop window for the club should be taken. They don't compete against each other, they reinforce.

If you DID have marketing skills then you would realise that.

I guess this post is destined for the deletion bin too.

I used to do an after match report on Slough games for Time 106.6fm a few years ago. Report only lasted for 3-5 minutes and covered Saturday games as part of their sports show. Quite a few fans , who normally attend games, said they listened to it when they couldn't attend in person. I think it's a great idea and as others have said it may bring people to games if they've heard it on the radio.

If you're such a rules man, check out the one that says users may not argue a moderators decision publicly.

Mistwraith, I have just read your deleted post and can see nothing wrong with it. However,my colleague who is another moderator and has been doing it a lot longer than me, thought it was offensive,so my hands are tied somewhat in re-posting it.

I think perhaps a pm to the person you were annoyed with, may have been a better way of clearing the air with him.

Had it been me you were having a go at, I wouldn't have minded it staying up. All moderators use there discretion

to what is suitable and what is not, so that's all I can say on the matter,I'm afraid.

Radio good idea.

Unknowns who have had no input to the club slagging off volunteers who put in a lot of time and effort is, however, pretty low.

I'm sure the volunteers have busy lives and their efforts are very much appreciated by the actual fans who are aware of how long these things take. With full time jobs and actually ATTENDING slough games as well I'm sure much of their free time is devoted to help run the website I for one think put site is a credit to them and the club.

I've always been very impressed by the official website.  It is up-to-date and has a good layout.  It is far better than many clubs at this level (and even some at a higher level).  The player database, opposition database etc. are also great features.  The only thing that I would change is to put a link to the online shop at the top of the page.  I don't know how many sales there are through the official site but the link to the shop is quite hidden right now.  Still, genuinely think that the website is very good and has a lot of information.

Even with radio coverage of matches, the Twitter feed would be useful.  I often use it to keep track of the scores.  I'll often be at a Hearts match when Slough are playing or be busy when they are playing and I wouldn't have the time to dedicate it to listening to the radio for the full 90 minutes.  The Twitter feed is a really easy way to keep track of how the match is going and is definitely a good service.

Hard to comment on how the radio would affect attendances as I obviously can't go to many Slough games.  I can see why people might think it would harm the attendances but I struggle to see people choosing the radio over going to a match.  People are already dedicated enough to go the "home" games in Beaconsfield and with Slough having been down at this level for a few years now.  I don't think that type of fan would choose the radio over actually attending live matches.  I certainly wouldn't miss a Hearts game just because I can listen to it on the radio.  Radio coverage is a good way for people to follow the match but I could never choose that over attending live and I'm sure the vast majority would be the same as me.  TV coverage could certainly have an effect on attendances but that's obviously irrelevant to this discussion (I still think the diehards would go if a game was on TV but it might put off people who don't go so much).

The volunteers clearly do a very good job for the club so I hope that any negative comments on here don't put people off.  I'm pretty well placed to comment on this because I live in Scotland so (other than those FA Cup games last year) I'm a full-time "internet fan" and rely 100% on the official site, Twitter and the forum for updates.  It is very easy for me to keep up-to-date with live scores and results.  I'm also really impressed by how quickly the tables and fixtures are updated.  The official site is also better than the Southern League site for looking at the league tables for the simple reason that the Southern League site lists the tables without numbers to label the positions of the teams.  Quite annoying having to count your way down the table to work out what position a team are in...

'Radio Rebels'  a great idea IMO.

Cannot see that many, if any, would choose radio over going to a match unless they have no other choice.

Hopefully a lot more positives for the club could come out of it from media coverage etc.

Having got into bed with MYFC, accepted their sponsorship etc., giving them access to commentaries is a very positive initiative.

But unless the commentator is a professional broadcaster there's no chance it will have any real impact on attendances.

Amateur commentaries are only for the desperate, and unless you have absolutely no alternative, after the 1st one you tune into, it's highly unlikely you'll want to go back for more!!

Good luck and respect to the guy doing it though. Brave man!

I for one am really looking forward to the radio commentary as I haven't been able to get to games fro the last two seasons being at uni in derby.

I'm not expecting the commentary to be great first time round as there will probably be teething problem and i'm guessing it will be the first time for the commentator, but if this happens I hope it wont stop people from listening in.

For me the club website is great and definitely one of the best around, it is easy to navigate. ok one or two things could be changed but they are only minor things, the majority of it is great.

Twitter is great to as it keeps all of the information about the game right there and if you missed anything you can go back and catch up. Also allows managers and players to comment.

Nothing is like ACTUALLY going to the game but for when you can't make it having the chance to keep up with radio or twitter is great.

Thank you to all the website volunteers I for one am grateful for your efforts.
