Rebels Radio!

Just thought I would add my opinion to this debate, personally I think it is a great idea, why not??

Is it really going to have any affect on attendances??? I can't believe it would, as lets be honest the main reason people go to non league games, is the real atmosphere, proper football, meeting friends, letting off a lot of steam, having a cheeseburger (in my case) ;-) etc etc, and I can't believe for one second that a radio commentary would stop that (as lets be honest we will not have John Motson commentating).

To say Twitter would be redundant is totally not the case, as Weenie said people will have a choice, we have over 3000 followers, and I will imagine that once the radio starts up 90% will not even know about it, or care, as they follow twitter to get everyone's results, same way I do when I am at a game, it is the best way to keep up to date with what is happening in the world.

For me twitter is fantastic, my Dad for example is one that watches it all the time if he is not at a game, and would continue to do so (as he would normally be out and about and looking from his phone)... and there are hundreds in the same boat.

I think this is a positive thing, and just something more that we can add to the armour of the club alongside an excellent website, forum, twitter feed and video, I don't think we should look on it as a negative, lets be honest the main people that will be using it are the MYFC members who live all over the world, and if it brings them to have more of an affinity with the club, by having a live feed at the game, then surely that can't be a bad thing.

As someone mentioned it does Kettering no harm whatsoever.

I know someone mentioned something about the training ground fund, and MYFC helping with that, if people went on the site and joined you would see that they are having discussions at present that they are possibly looking to match any contribution up to £300, obviously this will be voted for, but it is something that is being discussed.

They have also been very helpful thus far for myself and Jon in terms of match videos, but also the support shorts that they have paid for Foulser and Warren, which without Warren would not be playing at all... and they were not overly cheap.

I believe MYFC have had bad press over the years, but in reality they are bunch of people all over the world, who just like to be involved in a club (albeit remotely for most) and want to form an allegiance and help the club in small projects... an extra 500-1000 fans cant be a bad thing surely???

Average League Attendances

2007/08 - 218

2008/09 - 254

2009/10 - 244

2010/11 - 262

2011/12 - 290

2012/13 - 236

So far this season = 272:

331 (Northwood)

337 (Beaconsfield)

260 (Barton Rovers)

241 (Ashford Town Mx)

250 (Marlow)

231 (Potters Bar)

210 (North Greenford)

270 (Daventry)

240 (AFC Hayes)

275 (Uxbridge)

350 (Kettering Town)

269 (Chalfont St Peter)

total 3264 / 12 = 272

It looks to me as if our attendances are simply fluctuating, and aren't rising or falling.

As for the Rebels Radio, I can see the argument on both sides, but share the reservations regarding the effect on attendances. For me, nothing beats actually being at a game, but you can't expect everybody else to think the same way. This simply enables people to follow STFC without ever having to leave their house. Great for those on the other side of the country/planet, but given the weather we're experiencing at the moment, I'd be surprised if it doesn't have a negative effect on attendances.

Also, please don't give up the Twitter feed! Not everyone has the time/inclination (or ability) to sit down and listen to internet radio for nearly 2 hours!

Using the attendances argument, doesn't Twitter already mean that people can follow the team without ever having to leave their house?

But since Twitter is great for keeping fans who can't go to the matches updated on their favourite team, perhaps the radio can also be good for those who do have the inclination to sit and listen for 90 minutes!

Win win!

Really can't see a negative on this at all. Twitter will still be important and should be continued. There's no reason to think one can't exist without the other. Well done to the people who have set this up!!! And this from someone who will probably never use it as if I'm not working I will always be at the game!!!

I agree, publicity for the club at no cost. its a win win situation. The club seems to be suffering from an inability to publicise its self via its social media at the moment. Has anyone seen the face book page lately.....boring, id rather read interviews with players and managers and current projects (like "Rebels Radio") rather than finding out who we played 20 years ago this day...totally boring. "On this day" has its place and its not on fast moving social media.

The other thing with the radio, if the commentaries are really upbeat and positive then that might make the listener want to come to the next home game.

Theirs nothing like listening to an exciting game to make you want to go, especially when it is more than affordable to do so.

To do that though we need to make sure that the link to the radio broadcast is out in the normal community as well as amongst the usual faithful, and make sure they mention where we are, how much it is to get in, and hen future games are being played

Thank you for offering to conduct such activities and provide them to us for use. Maybe those of us who already give many hours to the club, for seemingly no appreciation don't have time for things like that too.

Dont think it will stop people attending matches as there is nothing better than watching the real thing, but if you cant get there and you are like me and cant twitter properly I think its a great idea for people to find out what is happening.

BUT please dont stop the Twitter, for people like my Kim who have to work on Saturdays its the only way they can keep up to date with the match.

Those of us who were following Slough 20 years ago like reading about those things! Our website and Twitter are excellent for this level - the lads do a great job.

Quite agree Mark, the lads do a great job on the website and twitter and work really hard on it., it was the facebook page I was talking about.

MIght be boring to you Glover but others might enjoy it !!

To be honest I find your post a little bit insulting to people that have worked hard for this club for a very long time,  and trust me we have worked hard for MANY years and also tried MANY ways of trying to promote STFC and keep it going !

Hopefully the Rebels Radio could also include interviews or comment from Managers and players pre and/or post match which could be included with the Newsletter each week and provide even more engagement with fans or potential fans.

I'm looking forward to listening to unbiased after match analysis from Hotspur!I just hope that the commentators aren't from Brazil & are going to scream GOAAAAALLLL! too often.

Seriously,i can only see this as a positive thing for the club.Kettering have proved that it can work,& is another great idea from MYFC to promote the club further.

As long as each GOAAAAAALLLLL is a Slough goal, I don't mind!
