Rebels Radio!

1st February 2014 shall see the birth of Rebels Radio!

Yes, the Rebels v Egham match (should it not be rained off!) shall have online commentary, brought to you by MyFootballclub via this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxNE6_7aT9c

A big thank you for the efforts of MyFC board member Mick Newton who has worked tirelessly on his research for the required equipment and to MyFC for funding the equipment.

Thanks also to Neil's friend John Porter, a Slough regular who has volunteered to do the commentary!

Whilst all the equipment has been tested, there are bound to be the odd technical blips on this maiden attempt, so please all, be patient and hopefully, we'll be able to hear lots of Slough goals going in loud and clear!

I'd still rather go to the game Rebel1965, as the live match viewing and conversation with fellow supporters is all part of the game experience IMO.

Great news for those MYFC members who can't get to games (a long commute from around the world for some).

I agree with Rebel1965 on this one. Even though it won't stop me from attending, I can see it preventing some, particular on cold, wet days. The MyFC members are already provided with full game video - or at least extended video highlights - prior to a condensed verison being made available publicly online. This would be much better suited to providing coverage at away games, especially ones where the camera team have not been funded to attend.

However, it would make the club twitter feed a little redundant, especially for home games, which is a feature which I've found very useful over the past season and a half where my attendance, particularly at away games, has been limited. Hopefully the discussions can take place, although this should have been done before the investigations and investment from MyFC, to find the correct balance between the two. Would be a shame if MyFC contributions force out volunteers providing services from their duties.

I'm with Rebel1965 with this. Twitter I don't have an issue with, generally updates of key moments are provided on the service and it leaves room for people to come along, sample the atmosphere and get involved, but with the radio whats the point of turning up at all. As mentioned elsewhere the club is suffering from falling gates, it's just another reason and a more attractive reason at that for not turning up to home games.

If it were covering away games thats a different matter because selfishly it won't effect our home gates but this potentially has a damaging effect. I applaud the effort involved my MyFC in doing this but I don't agree with it and there should have been enquiries to the suitability of it before hand.

Is Rebels radio for home games only?

If so why would the Twitter feed stop for away games?

Also, people keep saying our attendances are dropping. Our current average home attendance is 272, does anyone know what our average home attendances were for previous seasons?

The majority of MyFC members cannot make it to matches, hence the radio idea and Steve was aware of the plans to go ahead with this, from when the idea was first touched upon months ago.

As others have mentioned, commentary is only a substitute for when you can't get to the games - I'd go to more games if it wasn't a 400 mile round trip.

Why not have both Twitter and commentary?  If I'm out and about, I'm not going to be listening to the radio, I'll be checking Twitter. But if I'm at home, I'll tune in to the commentary. It's just more choice for people.

Also, it's likely that commentary will be at some away games too, depending on John's availability/plans I guess.

And no, as far as I know, the club isn't making anything from this (apart from a bit of free advertising) but neither are they out of pocket for it.

i think this is a great idea, gates this season are comparable to previous seasons, there is no reason to end the twitter feed as it still a viable way to report matches to people that don't have the ability to listen to computer sound feeds, and a radio station does not seem to harm ketterings home gates,  though i must admit its success depends a lot on the personality of the broadcaster, a dull monotone facts man, who constantlymakes mistakes and is not passionate about the game will not win fans, he has to make it exciting enough for those who are listening to want to be there.
