former no 9
Who read the following letter in yesterday’s Non League paper: Cranking the Amps a Step Too Far I attended the FA Vase Fifth Round tie between Ampthill Town and Hanwell Town recently, partly to test my assertion that these two Spartan Midlands League sides offered the most likely threat to the Northern League’s recent dominance of this competition. Unfortunately though it was not the football that attracted my attention, I stood behind a group of Ampthill fans who directed a chant of ‘we are the A’s, you are the gays, da-d-da-d-da’ towards the opposition. To my surprise stewards who did intervene in a separate incident involving some of these particular fans did not tell those chanting that their chant was unacceptable and should be stopped. This is clearly at odds with the FA’s stance on homophobia and the universal support given to Thomas Hitzlsperger in his recent revelation. Well well, As an Ampthill official, former player and a supporter for many years, I can hardly remember any singing from Ampthill fans. As regard the incident, I was involved in ejecting several Hanwell followers for a violent attack on one of our supporters, in which the lad had a very nasty cut above his eye. Violence certainly will not be tolerated at ATFC.

you aint got a castle
Violent Hanwell fans?? Hope the security is upped before tomorrows game then!! Lol. Presume it was a bunch of lads who jumped on Hanwell bandwagon that were ejected? Not their usual crowd, whenever iv watched them its always been pleasant. BigDogCol
1) I like to think that Hertford Town do their best to make visitors welcome and well fed but I'm biased but Hillingdon's ruby suppers take some beating. 2) First, Ampthill fans singing and now Hanwell have "several" supporters. Is the world going mad??? Edited February 24, 2014 by BigDogCol

Neutral
True, if we lose them to the southern league in a few seasons time that'll be last of the singing clubs gone ChinkyWinky
Munchkin
Only remember the one ampthill song and that was at half time. That was about having a waitrose, was quite amusing and the Hanwell subs at half time were laughing as well.
Savagebee
Without a doubt Hertford have the best supporters in SSML Not much else to do in Hertford eh At the Ampthill Town v Hanwell Town vase game alcohol was being taken out of the club house and drunk in the main stand the stewards didn't seem to stop them but to be honest they needed a few more stewards for that game. Drink and football doesn't mix that well im afraid.

Didn't hear that chant being sung to be honest but I was standing behind the goal that we were shooting at. There were to many people in the stand wasn't a 100% surprised there was a bit of trouble but it was hardly Football Factory.

Taking alcohol from the bar to the ground it quite easy to stop. We had over 300 at our Vase game with Rushden and Diamonds and one person stood at the bar exit and just stopped them. Not rocket science.

You would think so but most of the Ampthill quara had a drink in there hand to help give them the balls to sing I thought the Ampthill stewards all 3 or 4 of them did there best to be honest. Rhodes
Savagebee - It's funny that all this was swept under the carpet, why didn't you mention the trouble that day after the game at Ampthill Park

If Ampthill stewards were that bad how come we had an email from the FA congratulating us on how we handled the game and particularly the way in which we handled the unsavoury incident. We were also informed by The Hanwell officials that one of the guys ejected was an absolute nutter and one of the hardest guys in west London.
