3spirit
On the 'Bit of the do' thread someone mentioned that ex-players, who are the most talented or in the main supporter cliques for whatever reason get remembered. That got me thinking of some of my past unsung favourites of mine to wear the amber and blue. Here's my XI made up of players who gave their best but often went under the radar by the vast majority. Some weren't very good, some were good but didn't get the luck or a manager to make them better or a regular in the team ....... 1. Danny Honey- GK [reminiscent of Jake Somerville-short and a good shot stopper]. 2.Dean Palmer-RB [tall leggy defender who zoomed up the pitch and back again!A better player than he ever got credit for]. 3.Mark Mallinson-LB[ manager Alan Davies's unsung hero, strong dependable but always seemed to get the short straw in the team. 5.Vernon Pratt-CH [one of the nicest players I've ever met and probably a bit too nice to be a defender!]. 6.Simon Line -CH [played in the team when we had no pre-season games and was raw but skilful.Unfortunately in such a poor side seemed to get no luck in being spotted. Not sure where he ended up]. 4.Aaron 'Piggy' Patton- CM [affectionately known as Piggy due to his rotund shape,he wasn't very good but you couldn't help but like him]. 7.Tony Dell-CM [affectionately known as Psycho ! He was as hard as nails and took no prisoners. He didn't always come away with the ball,he came away with the opposing players leg! ha ha! Ironically his brother,Bobby, was the complete opposite,as he hardly ever touched the ball and would have suited flower-arranging rather than football!]. 8.Erwin Asselman [a Dutch player who was very skilful but in the same under-achieving side as Simon Line.Didn't really get much of a chance]. 11.Jerome Anderson[complete mystery how he couldn't hold down a place in Steve Bateman's first 11. He is a huge talent at our level and yet another player we let go too easily]. 9.Bryan Hammett [knew where the net was and was vastly under-rated at Slough]. 10.Morrys Scott[Welsh beanpole striker with little finesse but in a poor Conference team banged in the goals for us]. Anyone else care to have a go?
Irishadrian
I have to agree about Danny Honey Many years ago I lived in a property backing onto the Horlicks FC ground and would watch the Sunday morning matches Both Danny and John Delaney played for Horlicks then and were both outstanding As you say Danny was a brilliant shot stopper but liable to be lobbed by a skilful forward
Irishadrian
Mea Culpa My apologies just had a call reminding me who it was that played in goal for Horlicks at the same time as Delaney Not Danny Honey having a senior moment still saw him often enough to agree with 3 Spirits views

3spirit
Just signed for Steve Bateman at Aylesbury FC. I'm amazed ! ! Now he's got to play him.Perhaps Steve Perkins knows he's a good player ! lol ! Pity we couldn't have offered him a deal but I don't suppose our managers know him or could afford him. Where was he before he signed for Aylesbury? BTW I thought he went to Hayes and Yeading after he left us?
Mark44
You're right, he was at Hayes and then had a stint at Boreham Wood before dropping off the radar

Don Juan DeMarcus
I'll help. I always liked delroy preddiw but he never really got much love from slough. Also more recently Eliot Buchanan deserved to play Ina much better team than he did...

Also more recently Eliot Buchanan deserved to play Ina much better team than he did... Thanks DJD, for the reply. Not sure you've quite got the gist of this subject spot on but least you had the decency to respond. Elliot Buchanan was a typical Steve Bateman signing.I mean by this, a player who had played at top non-league level with Stevenage and yet had lost his way.SB was great at getting well known non-league players to our club. What he wasn't good at was discovering gems from under our level. He also wasn't good at getting the best from these type players,Elliot Buchanan being a great example of this,as he played him as a left winger instead of his natural position as an out and out striker. It's like sticking Ed Smith or Danny Burnell on the wing ! I'm all for trying out players in different positions, if injuries are ravaging the squad or trying an unproven player to enhance his game or in pre-season friendlies but to play players so good in their best position is a complete waste. It's a shame we couldn't have signed on contract some of SB's players,as we may of received the odd hundred or two for players like Elliot Buchanan, who on leaving us went to play at Hayes and Yeading and then to Newport County. You're right about Delroy Preddie,Don Juan,he was under-rated at Slough and has proven over time what a useful keeper and good servant he is. Don Juan DeMarcus
Have the gist of the subject but can't think of eleven off the top of my head. Here's another. Sam Bateman (overlooked by the manager despite never putting in a poor performance)

Certainly in his latter times at the club he had something going on in France, I believe.
