v Chalfont St Peter

" Does make me laugh [not], that when Slough lose, every man and his dog come on this forum to slag them off and yet when they win, very few post, as we've only mustered one page so far about yesterday's result."

But my understanding is that you banned people who held different opinions when Slough were bad.

Yesterday was a good result considering the last few games, but I would expect them to beat Chalfont if promotion is on the cards.

As the football chant goes,Lino,ARE YOU HOTSPUR IN DISGUISE.......ARE YOU HOT-SPUR IN DIS-GUISE ! ! !

Get your facts right,Lino, Hotspur was only banned after three warnings about his conduct.Nothing to do with different opinions,as we all have them.

He seemed intent on trying to goad reaction by annoying and abusing people, which frankly got out of hand.

Nobody minds the odd wisecrack or a difference of opinion but his postings became irksome and distasteful to the harmony of the forum.

Believe it or not, I and GarySTFC,as moderators tried to reason with Hotspur,in an effort to keep him on the forum but he just wouldn't listen and continued to be an unpleasant, obnoxious person to whoever crossed his path.

I for one believe we made the right decision,as the forum has been a better place without him since he left.

The first half was definitely not one of our best but we managed to get ourselves back in it and then made the most of the possession in the second half.  Some great passing football and creation of chances after half time, but we definitely need to address the recurring issue we seem to have in the first half of taking the game to the opposition from the start but if we don't score we seem to open up and concede.

Good to see all of our strikers getting goals and Wheeler and Harris had great games on the wing.  Second half we shut them out and limited them to very little.  We need to make sure we don't make mistakes and end up chasing games.

Promising signs but still some improvements to be made, looking forward to Barton.

COYR!

Chris Yes you are quite right about Munday 3 Spirit Sadly that's human nature when things are OK people rarely give praise but when they aren't happy they tend to complain that's the way it is in all walks of life and situations not just commenting on a football match Baks and Unders must really tear their hair out ( well Baks anyway) over how to get consistency in the team As you have said on their day and on their game they will destroy any team in this league (have done so already several times) often followed by a game against poorer opposition when they misfire constantly and are lucky to get even a point. One thing I have noticed that surprised me Only 2 teams in the league have scored more goals than us this season and the highest scorers are only 5 ahead of us No handful of runaway high scorers this season but where we have become used to fortress Slough in defence in recent seasons as of now there are 11 teams half the league that have conceded less goals or the same number as us I do find that a surprise.

IrishAdrian, interesting point you make about our defensive record. I think  Guy Hollis and Adam Foulser play cohesively as a pair of centre backs and know each other's game well.

You have to remember that Adam was out for a long time at the start of the season and Wooz was a bit shaky to start with in our first few games of this season,as he didn't know Guy's game and had been used to playing with two other centre halves in a defensive 3 under Steve Bateman.Eventually Guy and Dave started to look good.

Strange thing seems to be that as good as Adam and Dave are, they don't seem to play rock solid together.

Yesterday Wooz had the better game but that isn't always the case.

My friend at the Chalfont match said he would like to see Dave Woozley play in front of Adam and Guy in a holding role.which isn't a bad idea.

In my mind I would like to see Dave play as a sweeper between Adam and Guy,thus being able to bring the ball out of defence and act as cover, which he does so well.Adam could also rotate with Dave in the sweeper role, too.

Can't see this happening anytime soon, though,as it would completely change the way our managers like the team to play and they prefer the traditional 4-4-2 which sometimes becomes a 4-2-4.

Certainly nothing wrong with their tactics.

Perhaps I'm just a bit gun-ho or outdated in my beliefs of what makes the right components of a team I enjoy watching.

Their Godalming defence last season was water-tight,so I think they will improve in this area over time.no doubt.

Yeah I can't decide what our best pair in central defence is but I think it's Hollis plus either Adam or Wooz.

I am reluctant  to play one off against the other but for my money the Hollis and Foulser combination cannot be beaten.

Whilst Wooz's experience is invaluable, Adam Foulser is by far the better attacker of the ball in the air. Wooz tends to concede fouls by jumping with his hands on the attackers shoulders. Also Foulser is that bit quicker than Wooz.

I think Adam and Dave are better footballers[technically] than Guy but Guy is very strong and solid as a defender and has pace and isn't easy to push off the ball.

I think we're very fortunate to have all three !

I think we're missing Guy Hollis massively now and also Fouls when he was out injured.

Certainly two of my first names on the team sheet.

As 3spirit has said we're lucky to have these 3 excellent defenders to choose from.

Shows how much we missed Woozley given that his last game before he got injured and missed the whole if the December fixtures was Royston, and the game after that (Dunstable) we could have gone top.

Since his return after injury at Burnham we've not lost over 90 minutes with him in the side. No coincidence if you ask me.

All managers and coaches I have spoken to this season say that the best way to defend against Slough is to attack them as they feel Sloughs defence is their weak point, especially their pace.

I wouldn't say we are lacking pace in the full back positions and certainly Guy Hollis is one of the quickest in the squad.

A defence can get exposed due to a lack of cover from the midfield.
