V Marlow

Martin sums the game up pretty well. To Marlow's credit they made us work hard and knew how to use their pitch to their advantage.

Although on any other day Slough would have won that game,

I thought Wheels and Wazza were outstanding but Jamie McClurg was my man of the match, thought he ran his socks off.

Was surprised Marlow took off their number 8,as he was a handful for our defence from the off.

Disappointed we only got the one point,as we are slipping down the table but am not disappointed by the performance of the Slough players, who all acquitted themselves well. We didn't deserve to be on the end of a shocking awarded penalty decision and a calamitous blunder by our keeper but these things happen.

Interesting how people see things differently 3spirit. Myself and others I was stood with, thought it was possibly mcclurgs poorest game for us with his excellent pass for the equaliser being the one bright spot. Personally thought Ryan parsons was far and away our motm.

Yup, considering support has been questioned. I have to agree with the above, thought the support from the players was poor.

Have to agree parsons was superb, he, wooz, dyer and w Harris played v well.

A very strange game IMHO. Thought some of our players had utter mares today (as did the ref). We seemed to play superbly til we equalized (in 2nd half) and then took foot off the throttle. Very bad result this against a pretty poor marlow side.

Both goals against us were freaky and undeserved but if we want to be realistic play off contenders games like that need to be 3 point bankers.

On the bright side thankyou sue for the baby presents, both my wife and I love them, and I'm looking forward to seeing him on a slough top ASAP ;)...

Radders, I also thought Ryan Parsons had a very good game. Didn't think any of our players were poor today.

I'm presuming you stand behind the goal,Radders? If this is the case,I don't think you can get, quite as clear a view on the ground the central midfielders cover, from behind the goal.

Whereas I'm a side dweller and you can easily judge how far,and how much work the centre midfielders cover. McClurg's workrate was superb.Leigh Rumbold not as good in this way but did his job effectively enough and think he will improve as he get's to know the other players around him.

Thought Johnny Dyer was unlucky to be replaced,as he took his goal so well and looked to have the bit between his teeth.

at this stage of the season where we need to get wins to get back in the playoff mix this really was a game that was there for the taking and unfortunately we again could not get the win in a tight away game. teams that are going to be in the playoffs more often than not win that sort of game and yet i can think of 3 or 4 other away games that we have finished with only a point or less this season

the double substitution seemed to stop our momentum after getting an early equaliser 2nd half. changing both front men seemed an unnecessary risk with the score 2-2

bitterly disapointed with how we almost seemed to accept we wouldn't score a winner towards the end with 3 or 4 players just standing about especially right at the death when Ryan Parsons busted a gut to get down the wing and then challenged the keeper and yet our 3 main attackers were about 20 yards back just standing still showing no eagerness to aid their teammate.

we made it far too over complicated at times with delicate through balls and greedy shots being taken rather than making simple passes.

situation does give me much hope of getting back into the playoffs but at the end of the day not much you can do about our keeper being beaten by a bobble and a clueless ref producing yet another inexcusable decision against us for the pen. nobody could explain how on earth it was given including Marlow stewards and fans young and old.

just hoped the injustice of that pen would have pushed us on and motivated us to really go tooth and nail to grab a winner but in the final 3rd we wasteful and not on the same wavelength as each other and towards the end just looked like we didn't believe we could win it.

A draw was a fair result today, as either side could reasonably have felt hard done by if they had lost. That said, Marlow looked the more likely to score towards the end.

A look at the league table shows that we will be hard pushed for us to make the play offs. There are now 5 teams averaging, or very nearly averaging, 2 points a game. We are not one of them. For us to reach the position of averaging 2 points a game, we will need to win each of our next 8 games. Not impossible if we are at our best, but not very likely, as since the Dunstable game we have been poor.

Some strange differences of opinions on the game today.

I thought we played quite well in what was a very entertaining game, end to end from start to finish with plenty of chances being created for both teams.

One nil up through Warren Harris's persistency, then the howler from Max which can happen to any keeper and then the howler from the Ref (term loosely used) who IMO had a very poor match getting the vast majority of decisions wrong.

Good goal from JD to equalise and we really should have taken all 3 points late on when Wazza and Adam Cornell only had to get their shots on target to score.

I don't agree that a draw was a fair result. Take away our keepers mistake and the non existant penalty along with the ball hitting the bar, Clergy's one on one and the two good chances mentioned, I think we had more than enough chances to win the game.

I also don't think Marlow are a poor team, they have a lot of pace in their team and Michael Bartley up front is a real nuisance for any defence.

I do agree that whilst we seem to be scoring good goals, we do seem to be conceding a lot of sloppy goals which will need to be rectified if we are to reach the play-offs.

My players for MOTM are Warren Harris, Clurgy and Ryan Parsons with Ryan Parsons getting the nod.

Think your post is harsh,Mr Rebel, considering we dominated the first half and equalised in the second 45.

You make a fair point about the double substitution.I thought both forwards should have come on but at different times ie Smith for S.Harris, then later Cornell for Dyer but the managers took a positive step with the double change and had it been a success, none of us would be moaning.

The form guide says otherwise. Between the 2 teams today they have won 2 games since November. Marlow beat Ashford, we beat Chertsey. Between them, Ashford and Chertsey total 12 points all season.

Probably neither Marlow or Slough are poor, but both are certainly on a poor run of form.

Excellent post,Reading Rebel.

Slough were the better team for 75 minutes but did run out of invention in attack, nearing the latter part of the game.

Marlow have a decent goalkeeper,Simon Grant and striker of note,Michael Bartley plus good back up in Ian Davies and Jon Bennett. The Marlow number 8[think his name is Devante Romeo] gave our defence problems.Plus Mark Bartley would have had his players up for this game, given it's a derbymatch and the friendly rivalry between the managers.

On the other hand, the Marlow defence looked weak and we should have taken the chances we made and also had more efforts on goal.Had Slough pushed on late in the game, with a bit of belief. we may have had 3 points to our name instead of just the one but lady luck just didn't smile on us today.

On the point of pushing up late in the game going for the winner, I think we've done that a few times lately and come a cropper losing all 3 points.

Don't necessarily agree with peoples comments that we didn't look like we wanted to win the game late on as we did bring both forwards on and Wazza's and Adam Cornell's chances came late on.

BTW I thought Adam Cornell looked promising in the little time he had on the pitch.

I felt a draw was about the right result, although maybe Marlow feel as if they should have won it, as they could easily have nicked it at the end.

I also feel that for large spells of the game Marlow were the better team, forcing several good saves from Oberschmidt. This is a little worrying seeing as they're currently in 13th place having won only once since November (and that was against Ashford).

There appeared to be little urgency in trying to win the game, and you almost felt as if the players had settled for the 2-2 draw towards the end. Play like that against this sort of opposition (never mind the better teams) for much longer, and we can forget about promotion.

Nathan, You are obviously entitled to your opinion but have to disagree with most of what you've said.

On goals scored and chances created we were the superior team. To say Marlow were the better team for large spells is IMO incorrect.

We created some good scoring chances late on in the game, which tells me the players were trying to win the game.

Marlow are a young team still learning and will get better with time and experience.

Doesn't mean a thing, who had the most chances?

They did.

We perhaps had fewer, but better chances, and failed to take them. They certainly made our keeper make more saves, and generally had more possession, winning more 50/50 tackles. Each side hit the bar once, and we also cleared a shot off our line. To me they were, for much of the game, edging a close contest. Not a huge amount in it, but they were better for much of the game.

Actually thought the noise was quite good second half Brighton and mostly positive. On the subject of balance I thought we were the better side all round but they constantly threatened us on the break. One of those days and at least it stops the run of league defeats!!!

Not going to comment too much on what you guys have said, other than to apologise to all the guys behind the goal, for not come and appreciating your support:

To be fair it is something I always ask the lads to do, and I or Jon usually come onto the pitch to remind the lads, as after 90 minutes of football sometimes it can be forgotten as they are shattered etc, especially when they are gutted as they feel they have lost 2 points etc...

However there was a small incident that stopped me from coming on to the pitch and Jon, I also did not shake any of the players hands or officials, which I always do.... so please accept my/our apologies, and I assure we will try for it to not happen again.
