Game off

Eastside Urchin

I wonder if it's the same ref that passed the pitch last night.

I fail to see how one day it's called on, for more than 12 hours it's dry,we get a downpour and yes it was heavy but it's been dry now again for 6 hours and dry till kick off,our pitch drains well,it really can't be much worse than last night.

Given away shit loads of work which I could of done and if I want to go next week i give away shit loads more, would love to know how close the pitch was to being ok

There was never any chance of playing the game, to be honest. We have to respect the decision of the official who passed it on Monday night but conditions were pretty much the same today and a different official had no hesitation in calling it off. For the record, I checked the pitch first thing Monday morning and asked the county if we could call it off, but they insisted on an inspection which is their right. It's been a nightmare.

I completely agree with the decision to call the match off - had they been forced to play tonight, we would have been left with a pitch that was ruined for weeks to come.

Far better to give the pitch a few more days to dry out, than to risk ruining the surface for the sake of one game.

Obviously my comments were in anger at not the club or it's officials but the fans being given hope by the decision monday night.

I spoke to Colin a couple of days back who said he thought it was too bad to play I like many was surprised that it got the go ahead the other night,Colin and the club would if wanted the game to go ahead but they know it's not worth playing if the pitch is too bad.

It seems that we knew it was bad and for the interest of everyone wanted confirmation Monday not to play but some bright spark thought it ok.

Feel sorry for everyone connected but although I saw the pitch from a distance today,I have also seen it on other times when it looks fine from a distance but when you get on there it's like a big, with the amount if rain In the last week, this must of been one of those times

I knew the match was very much in doubt and like the ProgEd I was surprised the pitch passed the inspection on Monday.

If anyone is interested I can show them an `ordnance Survey  map of the ground which shows the course of the river Ingrebourne BEFORE it was diverted. It meandered right across the pitch and much of the ground at the clubhouse end was marsh land. I have often wondered if the river flows back onto its old course when the river is very high after continuous rain.

On the plus side, one match took place yesterday - Leiston beat Dulwich 2-1 so Dulwich no longer have any games in hand.

If anyone intends to go to the youth match today, please note that this has been switched and will now be played at Beckton on the artificial surface, and not at the Bridge.
