League Cup v Burnham

Pains me to say it as I had Leigh to score in the prediction league but I think Harris nicked it by making sure as it rolled towards the goal. Both Matt reporting on twitter and Mark Hunter gave it to him so I was overruled!

Must admit I didn't really see who scored it, just heard the Tannoy give it to Rummy.

Didn't get to the game but glad to see Hatchet on the score sheet.Seems a new striker is already having an affect! ha ha!

How did Dave Woozley get on in his first game back?

He had forty five minutes which was the plan and said "I was their best player first half" but he was being very harsh on himself. Looked solid to me

Terrific entertainment down The Gore - there's a sentence I never thought I'd find myself typing! Why can't more games get played in those conditions? It had everything, goals, mistakes, fisticuffs, poor refereeing....

Much better performance today and the lads really battled for the shirt. A promising debut for Rumbold but definitely Hatchet's goal...Scott really led the line well today and Wheeler and Wazza were both excellent in support. Matty did well in very difficult circumstances and might have saved 3 penalties had he been a few inches taller. To be fair, no sane Slough fan would have fancied us in a shoot out but even in missing two we probably still managed to improve our penalties missed to scored ratio this season.

Good signs in the last two matches after a nightmare December but we have to start remembering how to win matches.

Have to come on and get over how delighted we were with that performance tonight and the reasons why (despite losing the game):

Things to remember, we had a 16 year old keeper in goal (who again I thought done really well, and is a great prospect for the club) Ryan Parsons only playing his second game with the players (so still getting to know how people play), Blounty who has not started a game since Chertsey in league cup over 2 months ago, and Wooze who has not played for almost 6 weeks.

Rummy making his debut and meeting some of the players tonight for the first time, then Jake Parsons who has not completed a 90 minutes since the back end of last season.

So on a tough pitch, we thought they battled superbly, whilst also playing good football at times and showing great character.

Lets be honest Burnham have done great over the last month or so too, and are playing with confidence, and if we are honest the 2 goals came from mistakes from players who were using tonight to get their match fitness and sharpness back, (Wooze for the first goal with a ball he will normally deal with, and Blounty switching off at the back post for the second goal).

However the main thing both got 45 mins which was the plan, we picked up no injuries, Johnnie Dyer suspension has been served, Adam Cornell met the lads and joined in the warm up and will provide great competition up front, and Eddie Smith got through the warm up.

So all in all (with the exception of a penalty loss which to be honest I will lose no sleep over) it has been a really positive night.

Me and Jon felt that the side played much like how we want our teams to play hard work whilst attacking teams, and we will build on that..

Definitely Scott's goal, I was right behind the goal and it was rolling along the line without going in until Scott poked it in.

A really positive display after the problems of the last month or so. We showed great character to come back from 2-0 and then 3-2 down, and some of the football was excellent on a tough pitch, especially in the second half. One thing I've always said is of we play our football on the floor passing it around we are at our best as long as we don't start hoofing it around, which we seem to do sometimes against teams who play that style.

Good to see all the players getting in much needed game time, and as said above, once it went to penalties none of us were really hopeful! Matt did well trying to keep them out but Burnham took some good penalties.

Just got to take that kind of performance into this run of league games, which I'm sure we can do now we have players returning.

COYR!

As to be expected he did look a bit rusty and was at fault for Burnham's first goal.

Delighted with the debut of Leigh Rumbold who looks an all action player who will certainly add some bite and energy to our midfield.

Also thought Scott Harris answered some of his critics with probably his best performance for us.

Ryan and Jake Parsons did well and Jake will only get better once he gets to full fitness.

My first real view of Matty Bonnett and for a young lad he's certainly not lacking in confidence and a real prospect for the future.

TBF from where we were it looked like it had already gone in and Watkins clawed it back on the line, and Hatchett himself was not claiming it just made sure... so my personal view was that it was Rummys goal.

It was basically under my nose and definitely not over until Hatchet made sure, in fact it might not have gone in.

Going back to Matty, what a pass out of his hands to put Wheeler in on goal in the second half. One of the highlights of the game for me along with Hatchet getting stuck into their full back in the net after the first goal!

Right, that's sorted, Rummy's goal it is then   ;)

If we exclude the first 20 minutes or so, this was a good performance with all the positives in Neil's post earlier.

Good to see Wooz back, as before the injury he was having his best period at the club and was far and away our best defender till then.If we get Ed Smith back and fit, I am sure we will recover lost ground.

Felt Sean made a real difference when he came on second half and I would join the plaudits for young Matt Bonnet who was excellent throughout

Made Wheeler MOTM for the free kick that hit the bar, most of the crosses and such good running

Saturday will be a turning point, I am sure

Well I was very impressed last night, granted there was some mistakes in the first half, still thought we played well though. Second half thought we were by far the better side in my opinon.

Cant believe none of you have mentioned Guy's goal, absolutely brilliant, loved the way he celebrated it with the fans as well, just like the players we knew and loved from years ago. Unlike last years team who just liked to hug each other, unless you were Radders of course LOL
