Ollie Burgess

Agreed, very sad to hear that he is leaving. Certainly a very talented player but I can't help but think that he never really got the run of games he needed to be consistent from either of the managers he played under.

All the best Ollie and thanks for your efforts during your time with us.

Have to be honest and say this is the first time I've completely disagreed with a squad decision Neil and Jon have made. In my opinion our best central midfielder offering something different to the way all the others play. Time will tell but personally gutted to see him leave. Wish him good luck wherever he ends up next.

We fully expect there to be a mixture of reactions to any decisions like this one and the recent departure of Lakey. You only have to look at the comments on here after every game to see the wide variety of opinions as we all see things different and look at players in different ways and that's what makes football so interesting.

As joint managers we spend literally hours discussing decisions such as these over a period of weeks and any decision taken is done so for, in our opinion, the overall good of the team and ultimately the club. We have to consider a number of factors.......form, age, budget, balance of squad, type of character, the list goes on......and we don't like releasing any players but we firmly believe that the recent changes (Jake, Ryan and Leigh coming in for Wes, Lakey and Ollie) have given the squad a fresher look that was needed and a better all-round balance. Only time will tell if we have made the right calls but we are confident that we have.

Have to agree with Radders, I'm a bit baffled by this one. For me, when he's played, Ollie has been our most dynamic midfielder and offers something a bit different from the others (although I've not seen anything of Leigh Rumbold). I wish him all the best and I hope we've got this one right.

I like Ollie and think he is a very good player who has been unfortunate with injuries at bad times (It thought he was running the game at Leighton until he went off injured in the first half) and was always capable of chipping in with goals. I do think he had a tendency to drift in and out of games but that is sometimes a negative you have to accept.

The way we set up though with two attacking wide players meant he was always the one I would sacrifice in the centre as I'd look for something more solid with two from Mcclurg, Short and Edwards. With Leigh now coming in to compete for one of those two spots and Jake competing for one of the spots out wide I did have a feeling that Ollie may be on his way.

All the best Ollie, but looking forward to seeing what Leigh can contribute once this wet weather does one and we can get back to some proper football.

my main worry with this is who is going to give us any goal threat from the center of midfield now especially with the team as a whole not having scored many goals at all recently. most recent goals coming from Mendy who we don't have anymore for I am sure valid reasons.

Burgess can be seen as a luxury player who is maybe hard to fit into the teams setup consistently as he does tend to drift in and out of games. the other center midfield boys will have to step up to try and chip in with goals.

Castello hopefully will get a good chance now as he has shown his potential class in brief glimpses so far.

at the end of the day i back what the managers believe is the right call. whether it proves to be or not nobody can possibly tell

Funny how differently people see the game, I often stand with Radders and we have had this conversation about Ollie before.

For me Ollie struggled to fit into either the 4-4-2 we currently deploy or the 3-5-2 favoured by Steve Bateman.

IMO he is best suited as a number 10 playing behind a main striker, with two centre midfields behind providing protection but neither SB or Unders and Bakes have felt able to build the team around him in this way.

More shocked that Scott Harris wasn't released to be honest.

Out of all the players that have joined recently I feel he's the one who has got a lot to prove and hasn't added anything to the squad and has looked distinctly average whenever he's played. Maybe he's carrying an injury, but I think he could have been replaced - even with Ollie who has played up front for Slough on a number of occasions.

Currently we only have 2 fit strikers, that is if Scott Harris is fit, so letting Scott Harris go at this present time IMO was non starter.

Having said that wasn't their a possibility of us signing a new striker?

Also sad to see Ollie leave, but as Unders says we have a lot of players that can play central midfield, so I guess something had to give.

Good luck to Ollie. Got a lot of respect for the likes of him & Sean Fraser as it would have been so, so easy for him to have left after Bates left. That's probably part of why a lot of people are sad to see him go.

Having read all the pros and cons about Ollie,I thought I'd add my tuppence worth. I thought Ollie was rather fortunate to be kept on from last season's squad,as he was very inconsistent under Steve Bateman, could be a bit of a prima donna and  only turned it on when he wanted to. However,I have been impressed with his efforts this season under Bakes and Unders.

There's no doubting his footballing ability and he has played at a higher level,so I am a bit surprised we've decided to let him go,regardless of signing Leigh Rumbold [never seen him play,so can't say whether he's a good replacement or not].Also feel at times we need creativity from the centre of midfield, which Ollie gives us.

Seb Castello,as good a youth player as he is,really can't count as a squad player ,as I mean, he isn't experienced enough in the men's game yet.

My disappointment with Ollie Burgess leaving,is not necessarily the player himself but the quality of player we bring in to replace him with.

I think we/I have been spoilt the last 4 and half seasons with the quality of player Steve Bateman brought in,as he cherry picked name players from above our level.

Steve Bateman's problem was he didn't get value for money,as some of the big signings he made, let him down badly, but not all of them did!

We need to get the balance right between having quality players and hungry, keen up coming players. After 5 losses from 6 games something needed freshening up.

I still think we need a quality striker to push Ed Smith and Johnny Dyer.

Scott Harris seems to be short on confidence and needs to start finding the net, as he may become surplus, too.

Probably something that could be said for all our central midfielders this season to be honest. No one there has really nailed down the shirt.

Think Jamie McClurg has. The current Slough don't operate well without him.
