Jobless Falls

Recommended Posts

Not quite true Ralph, the firefighters are always instructed to break a strike on the orders of the FBU when lives are at risk. As we all need to eat out of necessity firefighters us their appliances so they can respond faster in the event of a call out. They also use them to go to supermarkets to do fire safety checks, and have to take a full crew for the same reason.

The other reason you will see a fire-engine outside a supermarket, with the majority of tyhe crew sitting inside, and one member shopping for groceries, is that fire service no longer employ civilian cooks during day-time hours   -   Hence, one member of the watch is designated as the watch cook, and this includes 'doing the shopping'.

You'll be wanting a watch-crew to go without hot food next !

Surely this is their own food. Take a packed lunch if food is not provided.

Simples!

You would not see a tractor from a farm at a supermarket or an ambulance - yet the fire service think they are different.

They have their own cars - so drive those instead of a fire engine.

Or are you telling me they are on duty for 8 hours without a break?

They take the fire engine to the supermarket so they can respond to a possible call without returning to the station in their cars, which can save time and lives. They are also highly skilled, and brave people that do one of the most dangerous jobs imaginable, and certainly don't deserve criticism from anyone that could never attain the high standards required to be a firefighter.

Out of curiosity, what do you do for a living Ralph?

Well said, missunderstood.  My wife and I know a couple of firefire-fighters.  Both fantastic blokes who take their lives in their hands every time they report for duty.

I see that unemployment has unsurprisingly fallen, sorry, plummeted to its lowest level since 2009 following the Government's necessary hard line approach on malingerers and benefit claimants. According to Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures the number of people out of work fell dramatically, by an incredible 99,000, to a lowly 2.39 million in the three months to October with the Country's workforce rising above 30 million for the first time ever. You have to hand it to David Cameron and Ian Duncan Smith for saying 'enough is enough' and doing something about it:

At least the Bulgarians and Co., that are now welcomed with open arms to our shores cannot claim benefits for three months.

Good to see you keeping the home fires going Alan against the sheer ignorance which is what has got this country into the trouble it is in today. My brother-in-law is a firefighter, admittedly a station commander who hasn't been off call since the end of November, of course this has entailed him being called out every night and "day off" but two since then. Of course people who are ignorant have no intention of educating themselves and come out with bland uninformed opinions but keep fighting the fight against the wind up merchants!

Eight hour shifts? Do me a favour! Some jobs these days aren't the nine to five the complacent enjoy. Firefighters are being squeezed from every direction and the average Tory Boy has no interests in any but their own!

It's amazing how convenient the short-term memory of the average Tory Boy on here is. Somehow the fact that unemployment grew from around 1.5 million to over 3 million in 1985 manages to elude them.

Loosely - Read the first post of this thread again, unemployment has plummeted to its lowest level since 2009
