Squad v Beaconsfield SYCOB

Neil Baker

So, you have better players than the 7 (or is it 8 now?) teams that have beaten you? Righto.

You say the passing was poor, the 1st touch poor, the defence all over the place, the midfield non-existent and the strikers ineffective... Yet still believe Slough are a better team than SYCOB who have one done the double over you???

Jeez man, wake up and smell the bleed in' coffee.

West ham has beat spurs twice this year... Does that mean west ham are better because last time I checked we were 2nd from bottom!! Don't talk nonsense

No one goes out to lose. What I don't get is in a relatively weK league (IMHO) last season godalming team should be doing better than we currently are especially with the few slough additions to it.

I didn't go so I can't comment on the game, but our recent run is worrying and it won't be long before we are atruggling for the play offs.

It's all about opinions but IMO this division is much stronger in depth than previous seasons.

I think we need to forget this idea that because Godalming did well in this division last season and with virtually the same players we should be doing better than we currently are.

IMO there are some major differences to last season that could be playing there part:

1) Teams raising their game (IMO not even up for question)

2) More local derbies

3) Weight of expectation

4) More injuries than last season having an effect on a relatively small squad (perhaps Bakes or Unders can comment on this point)

I might be wrong but that's what I think.

Yes we do have a better all round team Rother. As I'm sure you are aware all local clubs raise their game against Slough, it's part and parcel of what the club has faced year upon year. For some reason we are still perceived to be a big club at this level. I suppose when 50 people follow BSYCOB (for instance) an attendance of 5 or 6 times that seems like a big crowd, even their chairman said as much in the programme.

I've supported Slough for way too long now and have repeatedly returned from local derbies disappointed and frustrated. There's a pragmatic style adopted by teams in this league and we haven't adapted, we're still trying to play expansive football and being picked apart by swift counters, downed by heavy tackling and subjected to no nonsense defending as well as slowing the game down, breaking up our impetus and frustrating our players and therefore the crowd. It's up to our management to work out the best way to deal with it and shape the squad to cope. Hopefully they will.

Interesting Bernie. I suppose my team Windsor are in a similar position with an average gate way way bigger than any other club in our league and a pitch that is the envy of everyone.

To be honest though, it's never entered my head that other teams might raise their game against us. Or that we have better players than anyone else. We just play the game. The table tells us where we deserve to be, nothing else.

Last season SYCOB finished above Slough, this season they are 2 points behind with a game in hand, yes? And have beaten you twice.

Sounds like they are one of the teams who might have reason to play the Billy Big Bollox card if they were to read some of the comments on this forum!

One... Last year was a different team and did amazing in the fa cup which u chose to ignore! We played 4 games a week.... This year out team has been plagued with injuries with our top scorer out and our most experienced players not excuses there facts! Maybe come down sat and watch for urself instead of watching the league table and sitting behind ur computer and making comments about a team u know nothing about!

Rother, with due respect, Windsor are not considered to be a big club in non league football.

And again, Windsor have "been plagued with injuries" as well, yet no-one is using that as an excuse down at Stag Meadow.

Best we all just accept the injuries as part and parcel of the game, because sure as eggs is eggs, other teams in our own leagues will have similar sob stories. Hell, if we look hard enough probably even some of those teams who've taken points off us have been missing a player or 2 or 3 or more.

In my experience it's really only when you start getting ideas above your station that you start looking for excuses.

Above our station??? I'm just talking facts! 2 or 3 we have at least 4-6 missing! Not to be rude but I don't care about Windsor or I'd be on there forum the fact is you come on here and say things u know nothing about!

Rother is welcome to post on the Slough forum.

He has made some valid points but he is regular Windsor fan who's judging what's happening to Slough from the comfort of his armchair and not from regularly watching Slough from the sidelines in person.

It is just the same as if I commented on Windsor, a team I haven't seen in person since Keith Scott was in charge.

Windsor and Slough are miles apart in terms of what is expected from them by their loyal followers

Rother is missing the point,in that the players we have out,are all first team regulars, not any old squad players ie top goal scorer, lynch pin midfielder, our player coach/regular centre half, and our ever present experienced left back.

Any team would struggle if this was the case.

I can see why other fans of smaller supported clubs are envious of Slough's tradition and fanbase but the big time

Charlie viewpoint is so false of our current set-up and is unjust to this season's  squad/management and fans who have followed the club over the years.

Gary Meakin has put together a good, hard working Beaconsfield SYCOB side and they won the game on Boxing Day fair and square.

Our players fell short of what the Slough fans expected but we will bounce back.We are not out of the promotion chase yet.

Where did I say he wasn't allowed? Rother can comment all he likes but I do not agree on what he's saying so just like he's allowed so am I! Edited by Hammer_rebel
