I too wasn't at the game today, and from here it looks like I was better off at work after all! 7 defeats by New Year (4 of them at home) is not promotion form.

Ever since the Dunstable game, we've looked a shadow of the team that had 5 wins on the bounce in November (the 4-0 win at Chertsey included).

we were rubbish. yet again the opponents wanted it more and we had no answer. can accept losing if its due to some great play but yet again Beaconsfield won easily without having to do anything startlingly good. just simple hard work

Bakes and Unders will get some flack due to the fact that today was the sort of thing we have witnessed for years in games like this but patience from the fans will wear thin very soon after the same mistakes are committed again and again.

we really need to get a grip and make huge improvements soon or the season will run away from us. hopefully we see Kettering as a big game so maybe the team will actually be up for it for once. time for the bosses to be ruthless and to make the necessary changes to put this right before its too late.

fans need to stick with the team as much as we can though. can be tough to pick up our spirits when the team is not performing but no point getting on the players backs like some were with people like Mendy.

I don't know the Slough squad intimately but aren't these 2 of only a handful who have any history with your club?

I know wholesale squad movements happen in Non League but when the going gets tough I'm sure that there's a little bit extra to be given by a player who has something more than just personal and collective pride at stake (which I'm sure all the ex-Godalming players do have) - I'm suggesting that maybe a love for the club, which only comes with length of service, is one of the key missing ingredients right now.

Too many players shipping in with a change of management may not be the best option. If there are 2 players of equal ability - one of who the managers know, the other they don't know but he has played for the club for a number of years.... who would you choose if you were the manager....?

Difficult question maybe, but (again stressing that I'm an outside observer) I wonder whether the managers answered too many of those questions that would presumably have arisen at the start of the season with - "let's take the player we know..."

Thoughts?

Just guna throw this out there I was as frustrated as most but where was the positive noise? The come on you rebels because all I heard was 'get him off' and other not so positive comments all I know is we had triple the fans sycob had but no noise except the negative shout? We need to get behind these lads as much as possible.... Speaking to a player for hockey and he says there nothing that gives u a massive boost then a loud crowd reminds you who you are playing for when it gets tough

Totally disagree that 'our opponents wanted it more', these players are just not like that and it's my honest opinion that they will always give 100%.

Whether we have the right players in the right positions is a different matter.

We are falling short in a few positions and IMO they are up front, at left back and in central midfield.

Our left back position and up front should be given a boost when we have Ed Smith, Wooz and Lakey available.

Earlier in the season I expressed my concerns about our midfield and to date I have seen nothing to change my mind.

Yes Clurgy is a big miss but for me physical presence and creativity have been missing.

Not just today but in other games teams have found us far too easy to play against down our middle. Whether it's on the counter attack or in general play, teams seem to have far too much space. I also think creativity from midfield is also a problem area.

Up front we are really missing Ed Smith. Today, where was that forward that could ruffle a few feathers in the SYCOB back line in particular the SYCOB centre back? IMO we didn't have one.

I don't like to come across as too negative because I know Bakes and Unders will get it right.

Rother I think our managers gave everyone a fair chance and in some of the tight calls old players got the nod over players they knew very well.

To be honest I think we are down to the bare bones and players are playing when normally they would sit out through illness or injury and then the suspensions have kicked in too.

There was a mention on another thread that seven day approaches have been made for two players to address the problem and fingers crossed they choose to come and give us fresh impetus.

I remember Stuntman Mark saying after Dunstable it could go one of two ways and unfortunately the wheels have fallen off.

We need to remind the players that they were winning that game, would have gone top had we won and were on the rough end of decisions that night.

We haven't become a bad side, we are just short of confidence and running on empty.

Some positive backing from the terraces always helps, hopefully should be a decent crowd Saturday, lets show the players what we can do and get behind the boys. COYR

I believe we are missing leaders and strong characters in the team currently. Our confidence

and belief have waned since we lost experienced players Dave Woozley,Ed Smith,Ryan Lake and

Jamie McClurg.

Currently the team that's taking to field has some very good players in it but the problem's

arising are,as Reading Rebel has highlighted, coming from no tenacity in the midfield and a

definite weakness between the centre half and the left back.Hence, huge gaps that the sharper

Beaconsfield team exploited.

Ironically,I thought we might be better in the midfield battle today, given that Nathan Poulton

was missing for Sycob but that proved to be way off and we never really got to grips with

their offensive play.

Nathan Poulton is the sort of player Slough could do with.Someone who will chase lost causes

and put themselves about and dig in when things are not going well.

If only we had a player like Darron Wilkinson was.Someone the players would look up to and

stir them from their slumbers, who knows how to stand his ground and also puts themselves about abit.

This is something I do think our team lacks currently.

George Short got intimidated by the small but experienced Sycob player ? Brooks[ex-Wealdstone,I think]? and seemed to lose his way on stamping his authority on the game.

However,I thought he was unlucky to be subbed as his potent shooting was worth persisting with

and nearly gave us a lifeline.

Thought Darren Wheeler was our best player by far today.

Johnny Dyer worked hard enough but is struggling to get an understanding with his new strike

partner,Tony Mendy.

He's also having to drop too deep to get the ball from our non-functioning midfield.

Tony had a bit of a 'mare' today but got us an important goal, when we desperately needed it.

Just can't see him being the right foil for Johnny Dyer, while Ed Smith is out.

Have now had the time to digest yesterday's performance in order to try and give a contructive view rather than one based on pure frustration at the outcome of yesterdays game.

Firstly, an apology, I was one of 2/3 that were shouting "Get him off". This was out of pure frustration and did not help the team and it will not happen again. I do think that Mendy is a good player, however, I do not think our set up and style of play suits him at all, I see him as an out and out centre forward who should be the focal point of the attack with the team built around him. I believe this was how he was used at AFC Hayes.

3spirit makes a good point above that he is not the partner for Dyer, I simply believe that it is because of the style of play of the two that often we got into the final 3rd and then it broke down whereas we usually see our strikers holding up the ball and bringing the likes of Wheeler and Warren Harris into our attack.

This is of course my opinion and not to say that it is right.

Defensively we seemed to let them in all too easily yesterday and not just our left side with their 3rd coming from the right. These are not bad players though and 6 weeks ago were solid. I agree that we are missing Woozley who organises the team whilst being a quality defender himself.

However, Godalming last year didn't have Woozley but had one of the best defensive records in the league so it can be done, I would ask Jon/Neil who was the organiser and the leader in the defense last year? Lake?

Sycob were in great form going into yesterdays game and we were comfortably beaten, Kettering are also in good form and Aylesbury are starting to pick up. It is very worrying the we have lost 7 games already, I really hope we pick up before it is too late.

Kettring will be bringing a few judging by Twitter and so it could be a good day to get some noise going.

Come On You Rebels!!!!!

It does make me angry when people say the other team wanted it more, does anyone really think that a player goes out on the pitch not wanting to win!! Come on that is ridiculous.

Lump it or like it we do have injuries and that has played a major part in the last couple of games.

I also believe some of the decisions didnt help yesterday and before anyone jumps I'm not saying that is why we lost the game. Their second goal came from a free kick which I dont believe should of been given, Number three should of been off the pitch early in the game and as for the number of our players they took out dont get me started, and that is without the foul on Wheeler in the opening 10 mins (yes Mark a foul).

I believe we have Warren missing for a couple of weeks now which really wont help (and I dont mean BR !!!!!)but as I said this is not the reason we lost just doesnt help.

And as for fans running out of patience, I just hope Neil, Jon and the team dont run out of patience with a lot of our supporters attitude. Calling for a player to be taken off is an NO NO in my eyes and totally unacceptable.

YES rant over now, I'm a woman I'm allowed.

Upwards and onwards for Saturday.

As a side issue just looked at the Calor Gas site which is showing the clash between Royston and Dunstable as having only 100 as the attendance?

This has got to be a mis-print.

The Southern League have always used 100 as a default figure when attendances are not reported.

If you look now it says 208.

Sue sorry to burst your bubble but the statement you made about players going out not wanting to win is rubbish .True the majority of players do want to win but as soon as you start paying players at this level you get a certain amount of journeymen players who are just turning up for their money and have no real close affection for the club they are playing for.How many of the current squad live anywhere near slough?
