Neil Baker
The squad for tomorrow will be from: Jake Somerville, Matty Bonnet, Sean Fraser, Ben Edwards, Guy Hollis, Adam Foulser, Michael Blount, Darren Wheeler, Jake Parsons, Warren Harris, Jamie McClurg, Ollie Burgess, George Short, Johnnie Dyer, Scott Harris and Eddie Smith. Scott and Eddie will both need fitness tests for tomorrow Hatchett is the more likely out of the 2, but neither have been able to train this week. Neil Baker
Just so people are not wondering at the game, Ollie Burgess will not be with us today, as unfortunately overnight he looks to have come down with tonsillitis, also Eddie is not fit for selection, as per phone call this morning. HEAVY TRUCKER
well done to the boys today with an emphatic win 4-0 though i.m sure it was not as easy as it looks on paper
Martin
Yep not an easy win at all. As silly as it sounds we really ground out that win. First half we dominated possession but created few chances and Jake did well to tip one over late on in the first half. Second half was more of the same until George scored a pearler from twenty yards to cap an excellent performance. Some great footwork and a neat finish from Warren Harris doubled the lead and then the Chertsey heads went down and Wheeler finished two very nicely to add a gloss to the score line. Excellent response to the back to back defeats but hard work. Good stuff boys COYR
Sir Rebel1965
Up until the last 18 mins. it could have gone either way - but once George scored the game was over. 3 more points on the board.
Mr Rebel
we were borderline desperate for a goal from somewhere to change a tight scrappy game and up steps George Short with a stunner. the goal swung the game our way and allowed a bit more space as Chertsey had to resort to being more adventurous resulting in 3 more decent goals as the home players heads dropped more and more Chertsey didn't deserve such a heavy loss and although they did little in the game they somehow missed a 1 on 1 chance at 0-0 which would have put us in all sorts of trouble. was a massive dispute whether it was the right call though anyway good win after the 2 losses it wasn't pretty for much of the game but we got the win
3spirit
I thought I would just add to what others have said already, that the game really swung Slough's way when Jake Parsons came on as a sub.Just shows what a quality player of his class is worth, when making an appearance from the bench. Slough are lucky to have such depth in the squad. I been a critic of George Short,in regard to a couple of his weaker performances on this forum but credit where credit is due,I thought he was excellent today and was my man of the match. Well done,Neil for giving young Seb Castello[hope that's how you spell it]a run out.A good learning curve for him.
Graham C
Three points and considerable extra benefit if goal difference ends up being a factor Seems churlish after such a scoreline, but most of the game we just were not very good and I reckon long odds would have given against such a scoreline on the hour mark The missing players were truly missed but if we say that today was the start of our Xmas fixtures then I hope our presents havent come too early Same score against Uxbridge would be great , but please lets find a prettier way of getting there
readingrebel
Very difficult surface and a swirling wind to boot. First half highlights were the free kick from Wheels that was pushed around the post by their keeper, a shot from Clurgs that was heading for the top corner and deflected wide and an excellent tip over from Sommers. Second half the game changed when Jake Parsons came off the bench and immediately added an extra spark to our game and then George Short scoring an unstoppable goal of the season contender from about 25 yards. We then grew in confidence and with Chertsey now having to push forward we suddenly looked like we were going to score every time we went forward and duly finished the game off with some excellent goals from Wazza and Wheels. These are the sort of games where you need to grind out a win if you are going to be serious title contenders. The chance that Chertsey had in the second half where their player was clean through, from where I was standing, looked 3 or 4 yards offside and the Chertsey player seemed to agree as he stopped his run thinking the flag was going to be raised. My MOTM was George Short. COYR!!
readingrebel
Some great shots of George Shorts 'wonder goal' in Horsham Rebel's photo collection. It'll take something special to beat it for goal of the season.
khan
Thought George and Wazza swung the game our way and Ben Edwards was the unsung hero up and down the left flank
Mark44
As said above Chertsey have picked up recently and it seemed to me like a psychological game. In the first half, whilst we had a lot of possession the number of decent chances was fairly even. Once we scored in the second half you could see the whole Chertsey teams heads drop and then we showed our class and took hold of the game. George short was my man of the match and it is crazy to think that he is just 20. Plays like a centre mid with 10 years experience behind him. Defence remains solid and agree that Ben Edwards is somewhat of an unsung hero filling in at left back and looking solid. Great to have jake back and for someone who hasn't played much this year did a good job. Well done rebels!!! Dunstable and rugby both have tough games coming up so hopefully we can close the gap over the next week or so.

As much as George Short had an exceptional game yesterday, Mark44, I think you're being OTT about his midfield quality just yet.He has a hell of a way to go before he is classed as such an outstanding midfield maestro of Non-League football,or even above average in this Central division! I do,however, think he has the right management and players around him to improve his game and with the backing of his father, who attends games, the support to see him flourish,if he wants it enough. Not every player is as fortunate as that or has the willpower/character to make it happen. Plus you need a huge slice of luck with injuries, contacts etc. As for your comment on Ben Edwards, you are right he is a solid hard working player and always gives his all. He was okay as a left back yesterday albeit against a distinctly below average team. He just isn't a proper left back, end of and never will be. I'm sure he and Neil would agree with me on this point!

I agree he has a long way to go for this and also agree that his attitude and the management around him are top class to see him continue to improve. On the other hand, I think he is definitely better than average in our league, you just have to look at the games he plays in and the ones he doesnt where perhaps we sometimes lose the midfield battle. Stuntman Mark
Not much to add other than a welcome three points that didn't look like coming for 70 minutes. We seemed to be playing a slightly different, narrower formation that didn't seem to suit us. Once Jake came on I think we went to a more familiar 4-4-2 and the goals came shortly after. Absolute rocket from George but the other 3 weren't bad either. Our football in the last 20 minutes was excellent.

I suppose,Mark44, we all have different perspectives on what makes a good central midfield player. We all have ideas on what sort of blend wins games. I don't want to be harsh on George as he is still learning his craft and I'm not saying that he is a bad player, far from it.As proved on Saturday, the lad has talent. My observation was that you stated, that George, quote 'plays like a centre mid with 10 years experience behind him'. I feel you're being very generous there,Mark. In the games I've seen him play this season,I think he has lapses of concentration and drifts in and out of games too easily.Considering the size of George, sometimes opposition players go by him as though he is not there. In players Jamie McClurg or Ben Edwards they invariably do not. Obviously,we are not privvy to the tactics the managers want his game to be, and you have to take into account the other centre mid/mids that are playing along side him and the positions they take up. I hope I'm not going to be viewed as being picky/negative,as this is certainly not what I'm trying to relay.I believe George Short has a bright future in football. The more games he gets under his belt, the better he will become. He certainly has the attributes to go further. Not negative at all and you raise some good points. At only 25 myself Im guessing I have seen less Slough players that yourself (judging by the players listed on your favourite players) and so I was not around in the days where we were at the top of the non league period. Therefore I could possibly be quicker to state attributes, possibly even naive. We both recognise that George is a good player and has a bright future and you raise a good point about opposition players going past, this is omethig I have not noticed and will try to look out for to make my mind up on. Thanks Mark for your nice response.Without meaning to sound patronising,I do thnk the more youwatch non-league football at various levels/divisions, you do start to identify what players can do and cannot and what players stand out. That's not to say that I know best,as I don't! I'm sure Neil and Jon would run rings around me regarding the finer, technical sides of the game but we are all entitled to an opinion, regardless of age.Especially given the amount of time,we fans put into watching matches.
