Slough v AFC Hayes (Brook House)

Agree Windsor rebel a potential banana skin  they do treat us as a needle match and they have a very much better away record than at home  In fact they have won as many away games this season as we have I think we need to pressure them from the off and hope for an early breakthrough.

We've had some tough games lately where we've had to be really on our game to get results, culminating with Tuesday's controversial game at Dunstable.

My main concern is that Physically/mentally these games must have taken something out of us.

Against a team that we always seem to struggle against, I think tomorrow will be a real test of character for the team to raise their game again to get the right result.

Disappointing, but to be honest it was one of those types of games where the efforts of the last 3 big games caught up with us.  You see it all the time in football and we are well aware of it from after the St Neots game a couple of years ago.  We were not quite at the races and created little until the last 20minutes when we probably should have scored more than one.  The classic late AFC Hayes penalty appeared again just after we'd levelled the scores unfortunately, and a lot of handbags near the end resulted in McClurg and one of their players being sent off.

Just got to pick ourselves up, make the most of the time without Tuesday games and get back to the way things have been before this week.

COYR!

Oh dear!

Maybe it was the aftereffects from Tuesday, but today it looked like the players had started on the Christmas Turkey and Wine already! Too many ball-watchers, too many players on different wavelengths, not enough organisation, not enough desire. When we did eventually start playing, we promptly lost concentration and gave away a completely avoidable goal.

I though we missed Dave Woozley's influence today. IMO we can't get him and Smith back quickly enough!

Not a great performance but I feel the players should not hang their heads in shame as much as some of our "supporters". Comment of the game "we are shit, we need at least two subs" (just after we'd brought a second sub on) legendary. It was not a great performance but the negativity btg was terrible today!

Quite agree Marcus. Stood down the front today and some of the comments coming loudly from behind the goal were clueless and massively unhelpful. That has to carry onto the pitch. Got me so cross I had to actually run up into the stand to start a chant for the first time in memory (I had a flashback to Gary once encouraging me to use my voice for good) to try and drown the negativity out.

Don't get me wrong it was a disappointing performance and result but if you have to be critical and sniping save it for on here after the event. Try and get behind the boys and lift them when they are on the pitch. Who knows it might just boost them a little bit and might make the difference between dropping all the points and snatching something.

Just looked at the teams we have picked up and lost points against based on their position in the league as of today.

We have picked up the same number of points from those in the top half of the league as the bottom half of the league.

Theoretically we should be picking up more points from the bottom half and less from the top half based on our position.

So it looks like we are upping our game for the top sides and being complacent about the lower teams - I think this ties in with Jon and Neil's frustrations about todays results and similar dropped points against lower teams.

Definitely a bit of worry there, Neil has made a comment about needing to raise our game for every game rather than just the big ones.

Just because I'm feeling the need for positivity there is another way to look at our results. They show we are capable of beating any team any where. Plenty of games still to go and we are fourth. It's still up for grabs. COYR

Firstly --same old AFC Hayes !

Secondly where were we for about 65 minutes----------mainly losing the physical battles against some young lads who were so up for this !

Better when Ollie had a bit of free rein in the second half and even more so when Sean came on to run down the right.

Anyone else think their attacker was offside long before we concede the penalty ?

I think he was just on when the ball was played Graham TBF

Very disappointing and flat performance from virtually all the players yesterday.

Massive hang-over from the big games we recently played? I'd say most definitely.

Not going to go overboard about it because it is only one poor performance since the Leighton game.

Next Saturday is a different matter when we are away to Chertsey. That's when I'll expect all the players to be refreshed and up for it big time!

Another, and I think more relevant way to look at results is to look at the games we have lost this season.

We have lost 8 in league and cups.

Of those 8, Ed Smith did not start in 6 of them. We have only lost 2 games when Ed was in the starting line up. Not saying this proves anything, but is certainly food for thought. Hope he is fit soon.

why were the two players sent off ? according too the camera man who zoomed in to the incident he saw no violent physical contact between the players , so it seems like a total over reaction by the referee again.

Not sure about an over reaction. Jamie clearly laid hands on the Hayes player and if you do that you run the risk of seeing red. Not sure if the Hayes player did similar back but with the handbags between the pair of them it was an understandable decision by the ref. I thought the officials had a superb game overall.
