littlehampton
Worth noting that while we were losing 1-2 at home to Harlow Town last night (attendance 98), in the Isthmian League Cup, Leiston were winning comfortably 1-4 away at Lowestoft Town (attendance 245) in the same competition, in their local Suffolk derby match. Whilst we shouldn't read too much into these results, this certainly rates as a pretty good win for Leiston, our next opponents, against the Trawler Boys, who have only lost two out of ten RPL home matches this season. That said, if nothing else, it serves to underline that we will definitely need to be well on top of our game, this Saturday, if we are to secure much needed points from our tricky away trip to Victory Road! Steph
Most odd. The chairman says he was sacked for "footballing reasons" after a 4-1 victory. Local paper says the following, "The former Wivenhoe and Bishop’s Stortford man had only been with the club for 38 days and, despite his side winning 4-1 at Lowestoft Town in the Ryman League Cup last night, he was relieved of his duties. And Pitt hit out at the club who he felt he had helped stabilise after a poor start to the season. “Football is a results-driven business isn’t it?” said Pitt, who was appointed on Saturday, October 19 and quickly backed by captain David Head. “Especially at the likes of Step 3 where Leiston are. “The club was in disarray when I arrived, I was given a mandate and I exceeded that. The team had won one in 12 when I arrived, we’ve won four of our last eight. Leiston results under Pitt’s management– East Thurrock Utd 1 Leiston 2 (Ryman Premier) – Needham Market 2 Leiston 5 (Robert Dyas League Cup) – Kingstonian 2 Leiston 0 (Ryman Premier) – Maidstone Utd 2 Leiston 2 (Ryman Premier) – Leiston Town 2 Billericay Town 2 (Ryman Premier) – Brantham Ath 1 Leiston 2 (Suffolk County Cup) – Wealdstone 3 Leiston 1 (Ryman Premier) – Lowestoft Town 1 Leiston 4 (Robert Dyas League Cup) “On Saturday at Wealdstone, we produced what was the lowest point of my managerial time so far, (Leiston lost 3-1). “In the dressing room afterwards we spoke for about half an hour. I expressed my opinion and I allowed the players to express theirs. “And that appears to have been the catalyst to what has ended up happening. “I’ll let people make up their own minds at what has happened next. All I will say is that I didn’t speak to the chairman after the game because I felt it was a dressing room chat that was needed after such a poor performance. Leiston chairman Andy Crisp said: “It’s very unfortunate we have had to make this decision. It’s for footballing reasons and nothing to do with results. “Steve is a good man but it would have been wrong form me as chairman to just give it another couple of weeks to see if things improved. “Steve Ball will take charge of our game on Saturday at home to Enfield and we hope we can build on our result at Lowestoft.” So he talked to the players in the dressing room after the defeat at Wealdstone and Leiston win the next game 4-1. Was the sacking a result of "player power" and the players knew he was getting the push before the Lowestoft game so upped their performance in that game. He didn't put the chairman first after the Wealdstone defeat - perhaps the players did?
Steph
Further evidence of "player power" Below are the chairman's comments on the appointment of Pitt and Ball 7 weeks ago. I highlight the point,"he has a certain interaction with the players". He added: "Steve Ball needs no introduction in these parts and we are delighted that he has rejoined the club he help made successful the season before last. “Steve is not only a top quality coach he has a certain interaction with the players and knows how to get the best out of them, Bally admits that the success he enjoyed when involved at Leiston FC first time around stood him in good stead when applying for his current position at Colchester United. mcth
Don't read too much into the 4-1 win at Lowestoft. Leiston fielded their strongest side and Lowestoft rested a number of players as clubs tend to do in the Ryman League Cup. His performance in league games was one win, two defeats, two draws or one point per game - probably just about survival form.
OldTowner
mcth, Agree, Read the Lowestoft report to get a "true reflection" of the teams each side fielded. However, win is a win and "should build confidence. As someone once said "it's a funny old game"

littlehampton
Tomorrow's League encounter at Leiston promises to be a real 'ding-donger' of a match, with both sides desperate for points, and both Clubs with caretaker managers in charge. Not an ideal situation for either Club, and the sooner things are sorted the better. Since Steve's departure, Peter and Bryan have worked hard to improve performances and results, and after running high-flying Dulwich Hamlet very close last weekend, Town will travel with renewed confidence and belief in their own ability to put in another good performance, maintain progress, and secure points at Victory Road. Good luck everyone, especially Peter, Bryan and the players. 'UP THE TOWN'
