Jon Underwood
Just wanted to give a quick update regarding the week ahead. As the starting line-up has been pretty settled over the past few weeks we are taking the opportunity to get games for a few of the lads who haven't been starting for one reason or another. Tomorrow night Ollie Burgess is going to play for Holyport while Ryan Lake and Scott Harris will be playing for Bedfont Sports in the Combined Counties Premier. Then on Saturday Michael Blount will play for Badshot Lea in the same league. With no reserve side it's vital that everyone is match-fit, sharp and ready to come in and do a job when required and we are lucky to have good contacts at a number of Step 5 clubs which enables us to do this at short notice. Martin
Excellent stuff, we were just talking at the game the other day that in previous seasons we had a settled eleven but when we were hit by injuries or suspensions the guys coming in lacked match fitness couldn't perform to their best and would almost immediately lose their place creating a bit of a vicious circle. Neil Baker
Didn't go as well as we hoped tonight: Some of you may have seen that Lakey got a straight red for a tackle in the 35th minute tonight, which means he is going to have to serve a ban, what is really frustrating was when asked he said that he had won the ball and should not have even been a yellow (now that is what we would expect him to say I guess) However I rang Micky Woodham after the game (Windsor manager) who they were playing, and he confirmed that he should not have even had a booking, and that it was a terrible decision, which is extremely frustrating.... On the plus side Hatchett and Ollie both got games in, Hatch scored Bedfonts goal after 20 minutes however after the red card they went on to get beat, but he got a good work out. Ollie also got through a 90 unscathed after his recent hamstring injury, which is positive news.
Curtis
Neil, Isn't there a right to appeal against straight red cards if they are unjustified, which it appears might be the case with Lakey...... I think Wes Brown (Sunderland) recently successfully appealed a straight red.
Neil Baker
Only with video evidence I am afraid... which there was not last night!!! So he will have to serve a 3 game suspension which is extremely unjust!
GarySTFC
This will be another benefit of having the entire game filmed in the event we need to justify an appeal.
Mr Rebel
presumably the ban applies to the player regardless of what club they are playing for rather than just for Bedfont Sports matches
Neil Baker
Correct, he will have a 3 game ban, which I believe will be served 2 weeks from last night, and be based on Bedfonts game's, so will not be able to play for us until their first team has played 3 games. Geggy
Neil - it was an interesting incident last night. From our position behind the goal it looked a foul but none of us shouted or appealed for a red card, which can often be the case with supporters and it was most certainly a surprise when the ref got the red card out. However, having said that, the incident took place directly in front of the home team dugout and once the red card was shown, there was no noticeable adverse reaction from the Bedfont bench or players, which tended to indicate that there was either a lateness in the tackle or studs were pointing/two footed challenge. I always think if the team the player plays for aren't screaming at the ref for an injustice tends to point to the fact that it was a red card offence. Neil Baker
I can't comment, however spoken to 4 people now about it, and all said very harsh including Windsor and Bedfont Sports manager... we just have to accept it and move in... shame but these things happen in football.... Cheers though.
rebelade
Neil does this mean that if Bedfont don't play for 3 games, say due to postponements or cup ties, Ryan can't play for at all, and is this for Bedfont 1st team or does it include reserve games
Neil Baker
3 first team games for Bedfont Sports..... and he cant play for anyone else until they are completed... at present the games he will miss for them is 14th Dec, 21st and 28th... which will mean missing 4 games for us... However they may be able to rearrange a cup game so it is not too bad.. Is one of the most frustrating rules in non league football, I remember the NLP doing an article on a player who was coming back from injury and played for the reserve team, and got sent off, he had to miss 3 reserve team games, which ended up being something like 9 first team matches.... Chris
I'm confused as to why its a 3 match ban and not a one?
Irishadrian
Straight red not two yellows
mal316
Straight red not two yellows Sort of right Irishadrian. Just because it's a straight red doesn't mean it's 3 games. You can get a red for denying a goalscoring opportunity either by foul or handball for instance and only get a 1 game ban.
Irishadrian
Thanks for correcting that should have said straight red for dangerous play
