Tannoy?

Why does the tannoy work well under the covered stand but so bloody awful in the rest of the

ground?

A couple of Daventry fans took the piss rotten about it yesterday. It did sound like the announcer was under water! from where we were standing.

Other days it sounds like Norman Collier is making a comeback.

Anyone know how to remedy this?

I would guess shelling out some money!

Glover   I agree  but they are taking our money and everything we pay for should be fit for purpose I hope this is drawn to their attention for action.

Totally agree and as we effectively keep SYCOB in business they should replace the speakers.

I seem to have inherited tannoy duties these days (wrong place wrong time!) and can confirm that as I don't recall being under water at any point whilst announcing it must be the PA system.

It's quite difficult to get the balance right - speak too close into the microphone and it's muffled; hold it too far away or at the wrong angle and it doesn't pick up your voice. Beyond the covered end I'd imagine it's barely audible but that's down to the system I'm afraid. There's also the infuriating issue of the CD player which jumps every time someone looks at it. It's located just inside the boardroom door and the constant flow of people in and out and the resulting door movement makes it jump badly. It's not the CDs as some have suggested. Just some of the pitfalls we have of dealing with dodgy equipment I'm afraid.

As we're talking about the tannoy however, what do people want from announcements? We do lineups, details of forthcoming matches and the occasional other event (quiz etc). We also do the obvious goal times and scorers (when we can work out who has scored at the far end!) and substitutions but what more info (or less!) do people want? We can do whatever (within reason). One guy (not sure who it was but thanks) bringing me Calor League half-times at the last game was very useful.

Do people want more jumpy music before the game or more announcements? Any ideas to enhance the whole announcement thing would be useful, short of getting SYCOB to move the CD player and buy some decent speakers.

Cheers, Ian.

Ian,the reason I started this thread was to see if anything could be done about the inaudible sound that comes out of the

tannoy, when it is received around the rest of the ground[not the main stand].

Absurdly,it occasionally works fine but most times it is terrible.

To me it is the one thing that needs to be sorted out asap ,as it sounds so amateurish and botched, as I had the

misfortune to be told by a couple of Daventry fans at our last home match [as if I needed telling!].

I have no issue at all with what is relayed via yourself through the tannoy.Really like the idea of the half time scores from the Central division, think all fans would like that.
