michael
yep-beat maidstone but lost recently to Lewes, lowestoft, dulwich ,kingstonian-all above Margate in the league and seriously vying for promotion. lost all games by more than one goal and deservedly beaten. No disgrace to lose, and even if we were 'better' probably would lost at least two of those games. For me-consistent theme-simply not as good as those teams. again-nothing wrong with that. we never had a top 5 squad-posssibly top eight, but realistically mid table at best. again-nothing wrong with that. evident from the whitstable friendly that this was not a top 5 team-even with squad tweaks along the way, that you always get.. Must not panic though-or try and get somewhere ,which is not sustainable. I think SO/DH have assembled a squad which could grow into a good squad-need to keep them together though-another 6 months under their belt and these players could take the club into top 8 and maybe better next season. It is a work in progress-no better than that, but it may just be the real deal in 12 months. Need to keep faith in majority of these players-and above all,the management-it takes 2/3 years to grow a squad-probably half way there-and probably will finish half way up the table by end of season. going to suffer loads more defeats this season, and take so me pain, but continuity is vital-and not strive for something which we are never going to get this season-never are/were and will ;but keep the faith-just need to win a few along the way-and keep together
zorba
Can I look at the bright side, and take any solace from the fact that the Gate have only played 7 games at home (10 away)? Maybe the league table does give a false impression at the moment or does the inconsistent form often reported on this forum negate the hope of a climb to a higher position? margate lad
something needs to be done. we are two points from 16th position and 4 of them teams have got at least one if not two games in hand on us. yes Zorba we have got more games to play at home but then we struggled to beat the bottom team last Tuesday with a 1-0 win when we could have been 4 down at ht. Tuesdays game is a must win game
michael
i don't think we will ever get rid of' inconsistent '. Unless you are a top 2/3 side, the rest will always be inconsistent-its a feature of part time football. other factors come into play for part time players leading to inconsistency. Interesting to me that Joe Vines was captain-possibly inspired thinking ?. what was the booking report/disciplinary report for yesterday ?
margate lad
You say wont get rid of inconsistency but we havent won 8 of our last 10 league games. i would say thats pretty consistent would'nt you
marksandwell
As I've said before when we play badly the whole team performs poorly, we don't loose because of the odd player having a a bad day. Therefore it can only be down to tactics/strategy/coaching/understanding what each players role is. Again as i've said before, individually we have some very very good players in the squad, but as a team they cannot perform to their best abilities. How many times can we say this season/last we deserved to win that game, i can't recall too many. I advocate consistency in the Management team, I do not like chopping & changing, but there is a dilemma here which i'm sure the directors face as well as us fans. How long do you have faith in the set up? If only we could see good consistent performance, where we loose by being "unlucky" or "out played by a far better team" then i think we all could have a bit of more faith. Sounding like a broken record once again, as i said before perhaps sooner than later we need a Q & A session with the management/coaching staff, where we can ALL understand where we are coming from, and more importantly where we are going. michael
moving on to the next few games;as the official site report on the lowestoft performance reports- i now look forward to margate 'playing less than impressively' and accumulating a few 3-0 wins. in fact-i'd happily settle for margate being terrible and getting a 1-0 win
nt72
They are not good players as commented they are average players that if play as a team can grind out the wins.We need players that can change a game when others are having bad day at the office.Players the fans can get behind when we are behind. Coffin Ender
Look at the top of the league: Kingstonian, manager in charge six years; AFC Hornchurch, manager appointed four years ago, Wealdstone, manager in charge 18 years; Dulwich manager appointed five years ago. marksandwell
I agree consistency is very important, i don't like changing managers after just a few months, i think a manager needs at least 3 seasons.

Not easy to pay the wages of those type of players on attendances below 150. I read last weeks attendance was upwardly revised to 142; but i do fear that tomorrow night ,it may be nearer 100 than 150. not that it makes much difference-but i do also note that we have alot of home fixtures this season-saturdays and midweek- at the same time that ramsgate are also at home. Up the 'Gate. happy to survive financially this season-mid table finish if we can -,and under the same management ,look for top 5 next season.nice if we could win the RD cup along the way though -to create interest going into next year

Thanks Mark - you just gave me a bout of nostalgia when it triggered memory of another forum - the Forum Cinema in the Fulham Road, London (still there but renamed long ago and now six screens). It was often used for previewing big films before they opened in the West End and I recall seeing the first night of "Bridge on the River Kwai" and also "High Society" there in the 50's
