Slough v North Greenford

Guy was suffering with very tight hamstrings and was taken off as a precaution. We are hoping that with a few days rest (and the magic healing hands of Super Kev!) that he will be ok for Saturday but will know more after training tomorrow night.

Sue - do you know anyone else that might be able to help Guy with a rub?

Daventry only had 94 at home last night so not totally convinced they will bring too many. hopefully we can contribute at least 250+ home fans though for what is a massive match especially with Barton playing Royston as well

Looks like Daventry Town FC are ever the optimists.

Because of their cup runs and hence good crowds, they have been having a 'lets keep the good support going' rallying call.

Unfortunately for them the plastic people of Daventry just don't seem that interested.

As you say Mr Rebel, I can't see many of their plastic supporters making the trip.

Martin, you've given me an idea for an article Your worst trip to a Slough game

Our last ever Amateur Cup match. Ashington  away, a replay after a draw at the Dolphin.

Supporters coach left the old supporters club around 11pm Friday arrived Ashington around 12.30 /1pm as I recall. The coach had a replacement engine which was "run in" on the journey, limiting the coach to 40mph there & back. Had a player sent off in 1st half got beat (obviously) got back to Slough about 2am sunday morning, then waked 3 1/2 miles home.

The good thing that came from Tuesday was that the team seemed to have learned the lessons of Aylesbury and Leighton to close out games against, for want of a better word, lower teams in the division, and take the chances that come their way. Agreed that Warren Harris had another excellent game running at their defence, and whatever you make of Wheeler's corner goal it forced the mistake and that's what you sometimes need to do. Solid at the back for the most part again, hopefully Guy's injury is not too bad as he has been crucial for us this season.

Saturday will be quite a different game but we are on a good run of form so panty to be positive about. COYR!

On worst trips to games I still remember us getting lost in Gosport on the way to the FA trophy game a couple of years ago and ending up in the wrong place in a residential street, I think because the sat nav had not been programmes correctly. We got there 20 mins late, by which point I'd already had to announce to the coach that we were losing from the twitter updates. What followed was no better and I believe we lost 3-0.

Although saying that it's not an away day without a missed turning on the coach, but that was a bit ridiculous. The other one that springs to mind is a trip to Leighton on a Tuesday night where the coach driver missed the junction on the M1 and then the next one so we ended up going all the way to the Northampton junction before turning round and coming back by the country roads to get to Leighton. Think we still made it just in time, it was hilarious.

My worst away trip has to be North Leigh the first time we played them. Nobody else was available but as a student with nothing better to do I decided to go up on my own on the coach. We turned up and had a new optimism, Derek Sweetman had put together a new squad, we had just been reprieved and this was the year we would turn a corner with North Leigh being the second game of the season.

By half time all that optimism had gone as we were 2-0 down and playing terrible, at half time i decided to get a tea and was sitting on the terrace (by myself obviously looking glum), Sweetman walks around for the start of the second half and as he walks past says "Don't worry, we'll turn it round this half".......anyway we didnt and lost 6-1!!!

I remember in 1988 me, my dad and his mate driving to Fisher Athletic for an away cup game, it was a bitterly freezing cold day and we literally got to the stadium where my dads mates wife called him to say the game was cancelled (that was back when your only way of finding out if a game was on or off was by calling STFC clubhouse directly).

We ended up going to watch Chelsea V Portsmouth in a drab 0-0.

Warren,

What about the time we drove all the way to Chelmsford. When we got there, there was nobody around and we had to wait for them to open up.

Whilst we were waiting, Wilko turned up and waited with us, and told us that he wasn't expecting anything from the game that day as he had lost a lot of players in the days before and was blooding a load of kids, so we wouldn't have to postpone the game.

When the Chelmsford people finally arrived and we went into the ground, both of us were wondering if it would be better to just go home or not. Anyway we watched the game and saw the kids get slaughtered through the darkness that is the Chelmsford pitch

Long time since my last post, but I cant resist mentioning this bad away trip..

I was on the coach on way back from Runcorn in a conference game when two back wheels came off while we were going down

M6 in middle of Birmingham and watching those wheels go further down the carriageway than the coach!

In reply to Mark, we may have lost 6-1 at North Leigh, BUT what a bloody good goal it was though! Edge of penalty area, struck sweetly with outside of boot. All players reacted in total disbelief as was scored by Steve Daly.

Wayne - we were some of the lucky few that the players coach picked up on their way past, everyone else had to wait for replacement coach to get there from Slough.  Some things never change though, the manager insisted on stopping to pick up some fans, the players wanted to keep going, due to the slagging off they had been getting!

Worst one I remember was away to Lewes.  Hissing rain, eight months pregnant.  Decided to take Tom to the beach for some reason.  He decided to jump over the huge puddle at the bottom of the beach steps. Failed miserably which then resulted in a search around three supermarkets for one that sold children's clothes and wellies.

Got to the ground late and had to climb over the front of the stand to get to the only remaining seat (remember 8 months pregnant!) got stuck half way over and had to be rescued.

Went on to lose 6:4.  It wasn't The Dripping Pan that day more like the P***ing Pan
