HORNCHURCH  0  KINGSTONIAN  0

Hornchurch kicked towards the clubhouse end in the first half and missed an early chance when Rickie Hayles fired over after a Joey May corner had been headed off the line.

The pressure was maintained and Leigh Bremner sent a shot wide of the goal, before George Purcell gained possession on the edge of the area and sent in a hard drive which cannoned off the bar.

Chris Bourne set up an opening for Sam Lechmere, but his volley went wide of the post.

Kingstonian came more into the match as an attacking force as the half progressed, and a free kick was comfortably held by Inigo Echepare, who was then injured when a visiting forward followed up, the referee taking a long time to decided what the decision would be.

Purcell twice went close with shots, neither of which were on target, and as half time approached Bremner was denied a shot on goal by a timely tackle from Aaron Goode. From the resulting corner, May sent the ball into the goalmouth, Rob Tolfrey punched clear, as far as Purcell, whose first time follow up shot hit a defender and bounced clear.

Defences were largely on top at the start of the second half, and it was some time before either team threatened. Then Kingstonian had three attempts in two minutes – Echepare did well to hold a cross-cum-shot from Charlie Knight, and then dived to save a long-range shot which eluded the defence. Inigo was again in action when he punched away a Knight corner, and the Kingstonian pressure then subsided, and Hornchurch came back strongly.

Michael Spencer came on for Lechmere, and Hornchurch began to press, and a Chris Bourne run ended when he put the cross too close to keeper Tolfrey.

When Joey May floated a high corner over from the left, Tolfrey was somewhat relieved when Rickie Hayles placed his headed straight into his arms.

The referee then had lengthy words with the visiting bench before ordering the offender off, and behind the railing, and the home following grew increasingly irate with what was considered to be time wasting, which the referee failed to stop.

Spencer had a shot with was saved by Tolfrey, and as the match moved into a somewhat too brief period of stoppage time, Billy Coyne hurled a long throw into the goalmouth, where Tolfrey eventually grabbed the ball as it bobbled around.

I must say that I really enjoyed todays game. It began with a great start from us and then swayed to and fro leaving me on the edge of my seat. A thoroughly deserved point,Frankie Curly had his best game of the season and Ricky Hayles put in another sterling performance (player of the season so far). Very important not to lose today, especially with it being one of our rivals.

A nice win on Tuesday to set us up with what on paper looks like our game of the season.

Well played lads,up the urchins.

The game could have gone either way but a draw was a fair result.  Very competitive with no one allowed time on the ball.  Purcell hit the bar which was unlucky.

Bognor a must win.

Good performance from both teams, Hornchurch definitely started the stronger. Rainford is showing the quality that he has, Frankie had a good game and there was a blinding save from Inigo in the second half. A crowd of 360 was encouraging as well. It's amazing that we're managing to compete at this end of the league, long may it continue.

Another two big games for us now, next up Bognor and then Maidstone away. Still Elliot will be back now so that helps. Could do with winning against Bognor but I'm expecting another tough game.

It was always going to be a tough game, and so it proved. Not a thriller but never the less entertaining and nail-biting right to the very end. It was encouraging that we kept a clean sheet especially against one of the top sides in this league. A good team performance all round but a special mention to the following players who in my opinion stood out -Inigo Echepare – Phil Starkey –– Dave Rainford - Rickie Hayles –Frankie Curley.
Tuesday’s opposition I feel are the dark horses in this league so I feel it will be another tough game when we will need to be at our best.

Come on you Urchins………………

a draw  was a fair result  we looked  more  like scoring in the  first  half  than  the second  when   we lacked  some height  up  front when  we went long ball  against  the tall kings   defenders   ,  everyone  played  well on the day  pick out for  me was  phil starkey  thought  today was his best  game  for the urchins  , just wondering  what boots george  wears he  seems to be on the ground more  than upright ;) , but  i thought  he had scored a simon parker special  only too see it hit the bar
