upthegate
Well that was pretty dire, not many positives at all today. Felt sorry for Phil Walsh, he may as well have been playing by himself. Never stopped running and trying but didn't get much help from anybody else. I assume that although Cox was on the bench he must be injured. Otherwise why have Bodkin at right back, when by far his best position is further forward. The young left back, Beale was run ragged, not his fault, just clearly out of his depth. Borrowdale not great but did ok, had to try and cover for the left back most of the time. The new lad (no 6) in midfield didn't do much, but at least his free kick near the end forced a save from the keeper. All in all turned out just as predicted, they were fitter, stronger and better than gate ... Simple as that.
Cookie
First game I've attended for a while (the inconsistency factor mainly accounting for not attending) and I was most dissappointed with that effort. The team we had out there should have been quite capable of beating Chesham who in my opinion were no great shakes. We just didnt perform on the day, something we need to address. I have to agree that putting Bodkin at full back was a major error. Even at half time it was obvious the the middle of the park was cryng out for a play maker and it was an obvious choice I thought to put Bodkin into midfield. Who takes his place at full back?. Who cares but there were other "young" candidates and besides our chances would have been vastly improved had Bodkin been further up the pitch no matter who went to full back. I won't go into the Walsh affair because I dont know but on the day he had a very good game up front. Yes,probably shaded m.o.t.m for me ahead of Bodkin who despite being in the wrong area of the pitch still did a magnificent job. Ademeno continues to disappoint me and it was a right move to replace him. The m.o.t.m award went to Avery but again i.m.o that was way out. He was pretty dire at the back yesterday I thought. Finally those early and late goals AGAINST have to STOP!
michael
Really hate losing cup games-mainly because of the financial repercussions ,and take cup defeats to heart-takes me until next season to get over it ,so yesterdays defeat sort of marks the 'end of the 'season' for me-and looking forward now to the pre-season friendlies next summer. That given-not there ,so maybe the pain a little bit less than if I saw it myself-but as others post-even with our best team out-it would always have been a very difficult game, so realistically-what was until injury time a 1-0 defeat at least on paper was not too bad. comment about early goals conceded is a valid one though-does happen too often. whilst others a bit surprised about bodkin at full back ,can see the dilemma-who else goes to right back-bu it did make an inexperienced midfield even more vulnerable-probably the injury to cox had bigger effect than the suspensions. was a bit surprised that sammoutis did not start just the same. almost suicidal now we are out of 3 cup competitions, but take solace in the fact that we have already won the Isle of thanet cup this season, and there is the Ironmongers cup tie against Hastings coming up-just have to go and win the RD cup. All about the clichéd bouncebackability now-who will be the hungrier on tuesday after their cup exits-margate losing to Chesham or carlshalton losing at home to whitstabubble ? Coffin Ender
Chesham have now won 12 out of their last 13 matches. It was always going to be an uphill struggle against a team in that form.
