New Manager

Recommended Posts

So, any ideas who might be in the frame?

Who's in temporary charge if there isn't a speedy appointment?

Are any of the players jumping ship with Steve gone?

I'm assuming the lack of any announcement of a caretaker means that the board are confident of the new team being in place before the Dulwich game.

It wil be dave h or scott mac

I suspect Scott McGleish is more likely to go wherever Steve ends up if they've got any sort of budget.

David Howell would certainly tick the 'popularity' box with supporters of a certain age and is used to performing miracles at a club with limited resources.

Scott McGleish will not go where Steve goes as i wouldnt imagine Steve will go straight into another managerial job straight away (I may be wrong). If he does, I cant see him having a bigger budget than at ETFC and therefore Scott wouldnt be with him. Steve should be credited with what he did on a limited budget at ETFC not criticised. The time was right for him to go but he was a successful appointment for ETFC.

With regards players i'm sure there'll be an exodus and 1 or 2 favourites such as Kirby may move on. Until the new management is announced it will be hard to tell though as i'm sure the players are as much in the dark as well.

Are the club going to announce anything shortly?

I assume it's just speculation but as a 'supporter of a certain age' I would be delighted to see an EFC legand like DH at the club.

However, what the club truly needs now is a knowledgeable, assertive First Team Coach with the new Manager who can diagnose and then help mend the team's shortcomings.

I am not out to criticise, far from it , these are just my observations.

Steve's GK 4-3-3 formation created attacking, flowing football in Div 1 North and it was both effective and great to watch.

The step up to the Premier Division massively exposed the system's flaws - if you do not have two wide players willing to work very, very hard in 'transition' (when we lose the ball). Without the two wide players having the willingness and knowledge to track inside runners we are wide open to counter attacks due to overloads in Midfield. After 8 or 9 games last season we got 'worked out' and we started leaking goals. We are still leaking goals. Most of them come after we have had 'good' possession and we get hurt by the ball played early and wide. The system did not work last year (only Scott's goals saves us from relegation - nothing else ) and word got around other teams about how to beat us.

Whoever comes in needs to understand that we need to win 'ugly' or we'll get relegated. With the current sqaud we need to go GK 4-5-1 . That means paking the midfiled with Lee ( when available) playing the deep lying holding role as he reads the game and has good awareness and Tyler ( who has the ability to run directly and create a threat) as the '1'.

Further to the announced departure of Steve Newing and Jason Dale, the club have asked Bryan and Peter Hammatt to take over running the first team while the club considers its options. They have both agreed to do that and the club thank them for their help.

We hope that all supporters will get behind Bryan and Peter and give them and the team all their support.

We will continue to update you as events progress.

Well, let's see what happens in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully a change in attitude from some players.

Good luck to peter and bryan in taking the team forward in the SHORT TERM.

Lets hope the board make the right decision in who they appoint and i am hoping it is going to be someone currently not involved with the team so new players can be brought in and old friendships with the current players do not come into it.

A new broom to sweep through the club is what is needed now and to keep us up.

If this is not done you might as well have kept Steve.

There's only one candidate for the job in my eyes.....BILLY COVE :)

In all seriousness (sorry Billy) having watched our U21's a few times this season I think Barry is an excellent manager, plenty of encouragement from the sides, ensuring the players are always playing to their full potential and I think one day he will make an excellent manager in a first team capacity. He knows the club & players well.

My only 2 concern's are: 1, his lack of experience at this level & 2, does he have the ability to convince players to sign for us - Steve had many contacts with both managers & players and was able to get some of these in (Scott is a prime example)

It possibly would be a gamble if he was to step up but it would be one worth taking as he has a lot of potential

Tyler Campbell as the lone forward! So basically you are suggesting that we park the bus with defenders and midfielders!

Barry is not the answer. An admirable job as reserve team manager but Ryman Prem football is a completely different kettle of fish - no contacts or experience or even knowledge of players and teams in the league. Having said that, Steve could maybe have taken a leaf out of Barry and his teams approach to certain aspects.

Steve has gone, leave alone now. Still people can't resist with comments , he could have done this could have done that. Well he DID get us promoted , he DID keep us up. If and possibly a BIG if ( from what I gather ) he gets back involved in football the club that gets him will get a man with a good track record . I have read Steve won't get back involved in Football just for the sake if doing so , it will only happen if it is right for him , financially given all the sacrifices you make . He has a young family and he has said they will play a huge part in any sort of job opportunitythat presents itself

Have seen a Wealdstone fan suggesting there are rumours of Scott McGleish being approached to take on a player/manager role at ETFC. Apparently he's keen to get into managing. Reckon he would probably lure a few players from here and there if he did take the position - given the connections he must have. Untried as a manager, but would be a very interesting appointment.
