HORNCHURCH  2  HARROW BOROUGH  4

Hornchurch started confidently; Sam Lechmere found Stefan Payne, who played the ball into the middle, where George Purcell’s shot was saved by James O’Shea, but on six minutes Harrow took the lead after Inigo Echepare needlessly conceded a penalty, and STEVE BUTTERWORTH converted.

After a spell when the ball was bouncing around in midfield, Harrow went further ahead when Rob Wolleaston sent an excellent pass through the defence to VICTOR OSOBU, who fired home with no defender in close proximity.

Hornchurch almost pulled a goal back when Tambeson Eyong took a pass from Phil Starkey and ran through, and O’Shea dived to turn the ball around the post for a corner.

Although Hornchurch pressed forward, it was Harrow who created the best opportunities Michael Chambers headed wide from a Wolleaston corner, and Osobu opened up the defence with a fine run, followed by a cross into the middle, where Callum Willock’s shot was turned around the post by Echepare for a corner.

Hornchurch’s nest chance fell to Sam Lechmere, whose rising shot went narrowly over the bar, whilst a well struck free kick from Lechmere out on the left was well saved by O’Shea, whose handling and positioning proved to be the telling factor for Harrow.

Hornchurch were far more dominant in the second half, and Dave Rainford went close with a hard shot which went over the bar.

Hornchurch pulled a goal back when Stefan Payne made the opening on the left, before crossing to GEORGE PURCELL, who neatly placed the ball past O’Shea.

Hornchurch forced a series of corners, and when Chris Bourne replaced Eyong, it was a Bourne corner on the right which led to the second goal – he sent the ball into the goalmouth where O’Shea punched out, as far a GEORGE PURCELL on the edge of the area, and the ball was promptly fired back into the net.

With Hornchurch now coming forward, Carl Rook made the opening for Payne, who crossed into the middle, where Purcell just failed to get a touch, and shortly afterwards O’Shea just grabbed a Bourne cross as Payne moved in at speed.

Harrow went ahead when some farcical defending from a corner allowed DANNY LEECH to stab the ball home, and further slack defending six minutes later saw substitute SIMEON AKINOLA scoring from a similar position.

Leigh Bremner went close for Hornchurch, and Payne twice sent the ball across the goalmouth where there was no one able to get a touch, but it was O’Shea in the visiting goal who capably dealt with most of the crosses and shots that came his way.
