Zippy
'They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England's foam.' IMO there's nothing glorious about war, and we should be doing more to celebrate peace and harmony.
cup of tea
There is nothing glorious about war, no doubt about it, but I think that we need to have these occasions so that we can remember the people who lost their lives (sometimes needlessly) and also to remember the mistakes that were made that lead to those wars so we don't make the same mistakes again. That might be a bit optimistic however.
Big J R
No one is gloryfying war, but it certainly right to remember the fallen, as I remember the uncle I never met, who gave his life in Europe after 'D' day.

Exactly that John. Remember the dead, and don't forget the living either.
