marksandwell
Well its Sunday morning and feeling slightly better after yesterday, on reflection i'm not sure what to say. If i'm honest i did expect it to be a tough game looking at where Kingstonian are in the League. We had quite a lot of play in the first half, less so in the second. At most of the matches if Margate have gone behind I've never felt we could not recover, but yesterday I could not see us coming back after going a goal down. Don't like Matt on the left, felt he was less effective, we didn't use the right wing enough. Can't say I agree with statements on facebook, as I've always maintained players do not turn up to give a bad game, sometimes they play to their best, and sadly may not be good enough. New lad thought held up well in the first 20 minutes, can't say i recall him after that, but i'm sure he was there in the mix.Thought Charles battled away, thought out conceded goals looked soft (please bear in mind i'm always up the other end so only see from a distance), The only issue now is how we approach Saturday, a very very big game. On the league i can't help remembering at Christmas we were at the top of the league, but look where/how we finished, perhaps we can turn this around by the end of the season. Blackz
I agree with all of that Mark (especially the part about the lack of width and Bodkin's position) and also totally agree about players not turning up just to give a bad game - mistakes do happen & everyone's entitled to a bad game - my problem was with the lack of effort by Ademeno, I felt he didn't look remotely interested in bothering to try. Will always support him as long as he's wearing a Margate shirt, which is how I feel it should be - not a fan of scapegoating or criticising our own players - but it was frustrating to see a clearly talented footballer not bothering to put the graft in (all in my humble opinion there though) Hoping we can turn it around, maybe a late surge into the playoffs, like East Thurrock last season? It's only November, who knows
margate lad
you say everyone is entitled to a bad game but have you actually seen our last 8 league games form. We have only won one of them so how many bad games are they entitled to have. Yes we have won a couple of Trophy games but being honest, how good was the opposition. Kingstonian are a decent team, but we did beat them in FA Cup so we know we can beat them.. Next week is going to be a real tough game especially with players suspended. wade
I cannot accuse the players of not trying. We were beaten by a good team who will be in the play off shake up come the end of season. Very challenging match next saturday and on current form it will be an amazing achievement to progress further in fa trophy. Special mention to walshy who applauded the travelling support at the end of the match. Much appreciated by this supporter despite the disappointment of the result. michael
Not sure what it says on bookface as don't do that or twitter-maybe I need to bring myself into 21st century. I thought first half was very high quality game of football from both sides. I wonder if it is the surroundings-proper ground, pitch and even atmosphere from the 280 or so present. I thought Kingstonian marginally shaded the half-but we did ok. that said-Holloway made 3 superb saves in first 20 minutes-one of which -low down to his left was world class I thought. terrible time to concede-but as 70% of goals come from set pieces (we remain rubbish at those-defending and attacking, or from individual errors ) maybe no surprise ) hospital pass infield ball from dolby(I think it was dolby) to avery who was slightly slow in reacting, but it was a poor ball, and got dispossessed and they score. second half-not so good as a game-they started well, but to me-we were always 'in it' at 1-0 and did threaten a few times, and were looking ok. I thought generally we played ok and up until their second goal, whilst disappointed,i could have 'taken it'. second goal really annoyed me though-more non marking from a corner, allowing their guy a free header. I said they would score from that corner though-.Up until then-walsh had tracked back and added to our defence at set pieces. This time he stayed upfield, so we lost our best aerial defender from a set piece, and we are weak aerially anyway. guess what-they get a free header. Not walsh's fault-but he should be back when defending corners-and the likes of azeez ,ademeno and whitely upfield-not vice versa. bad planning that one from players/captain/management. we should be organised better at set pieces-everyone needs to know their job and stick by it. that goal put a damper on the day for me. never get perfection-but that was unnecessary-and it killed the game off. otherwise-could not fault the effort-or indeed quality-everyone had decent game, although no-one outstanding. this is ryman league after all-not the championship Holloway probably m of m for his saves. no disgrace losing to kingstonian-and again-could have been different if after a walsh flick on,we had two players going in on their goal with just keeper to beat-but ref blew for offside. looked close to me-but could not tell-but others closer to the ball than me-said we were onside when ball kicked. had we scored-then 1-1 and game has totally different complex. games won/lost on small margins/players/ref errors decisions. I thought borrowdale showed class-slightly shaky start -to be expected-but after that-did not put a foot wrong, and different class of distribution, and made a number of quality interceptions-obviously reads the game very very well out of defence. he will add real value. Aerial ability not his best asset just the same, and we remain seriously weak in the air at centre of defence. next Saturday is the 'big one' though. really tough game against obviously a good side with about 4 players missing through suspension. A a 'one-off ',does walsh need to play alongside avery in central defence-with borrowdale at left back ? Ademeno and vines can score the goals for us. Again=overall-did ok yesterday-just not quite good enough yet. we are a mid table side, who may improve a bit ,and i'm ok with that for this season-got some players who will improve. Just want to win the FA trophy and R Dyas cup and i'll be happy
nt72
Yes 8 off play offs and 9 off relegation no teams got a right to mid table and i don't think management will be happy with a bit of improvement an effort has been made this year to get players in and they are capable but drop the other end and will we have the fight with these players brilliant when its going there way and get into the matches. Coffin Ender
Isn't this just a run of tough league fixtures? The last four league games have been Wealdstone (a), Bury (h), Lewes (a) and Kingstonian (a). Bury's away record is W5 D2 L1. Lewes' home record is W4 D3 L0, Kingstonian's home record is W7 D0 L1. margate lad
But CE, surely if we want to finish in top 5 we need to win these games or at least some of them. With the players that we have, that have played at a higher level which i believe is quite a few,. we must win these games
michael
Is there a chance we get a bit myopic about our own players though ML ? what you say is correct, but the same applies to most of the other clubs in the league. Many of them have also signed good players from their own catchment areas. Quite a few east Anglian clubs now, who have taken on good players from the east anglian league and senior non league clubs. those 'names' may not be so familiar to us-but they may be even better players than we are able to sign from Kent. south London area. For me-slow and steady progress. lets just win the FA trophy and settle for a top half finish in the league
