Red unsure cup V Uxbridge

Clive, we don't really have fringe players as such, apart from young Seb from the youth team who impressed in the last round at Chertsey and will be involved again. We have a 17 man squad of 'senior' players of which 2 are injured so the squad will be the same 15 who were involved yesterday plus Seb and also young Matt (youth keeper) who will go on the bench if we decide to completely rest somebody.

We don't feel our performances are where they need to be at the moment so wouldn't want to change the squad for Tuesday anyway, would prefer to use the game to try to put a few things right, while giving a rest to a few who might need it.

Good that we are including some of the youth and shows that we have talent which we are now progressing with experience in the and around the first team.

I am also hoping that George Short gets 90 mins, in my opinion he has been really refreshing to watch when he has played and I would be looking at a fully fit Short being a first team regular

Squad for tomorrow is as follows:

Matt Bonnett, Wes Harrison, Ryan Lake, Adam Foulser, Damien Smith, Ben Edwards, Darren Wheeler, Warren Harris, Jamie McClurg, George Short, Ollie Burgess, Seb Castello, Eddie Smith, Scott Harris, Johnnie Dyer, Arron Collymore

Is Matt Bonnett our only available keeper?

I know it is only the league cup and not a priority but IMO it would be a big ask to throw our youth keeper straight into a first team game.

We could use Sommers if we needed, however we do not want to risk him and would rather have him 100% for Saturday, and Billy is no longer available, as he has had to go up North for the week for football.

James Hawtree is injured having hurt his wrist at work, however we had already discussed last week with Mark Betts about throwing Matt in, and felt that the positives outweighed the negatives.

He may only be 16, however he has been training with us the last few weeks, and has done well, and we think he has a good future ahead of him...

Obviously he will have some growing and filling out to do etc, but experience is very helpful at that age.

Jake was 16 when he started playing senior football (and remember he is only just 19 now), and players have to start somewhere, they just need to be given a chance sometimes.

If he makes a mistake in the game and it costs us the game then so be it, but these are the types of games to blood some of these lads in, where there is less pressure to get a result, as in all honesty these games are normally loss leaders for clubs in terms of finances.

However the side we are going with we will still want to win the game, but it will mean starts for both Seb and Matt, though they will have senior players all round, who will help them and talk them through the game.

At 16 and 17 it will be a real positive for them.

Talking Seb, he was nominated and played for Bucks and Berks FA Under 18's on Saturday, and despite losing 3-1 to Dorset he was given the man of the match award on his debut.

Cant lie, I was a bit worried on Sat that a 16 year old goal keeper was on the bench, but was soon put in my place by a young Mr Alfie Lathey who assured me that he was really good.

When I thought about it as Neil said, Jake is only 19 and I wouldnt swap him, so good luck to Matt tonight and I must learn not to be so age sexist in future !!

I was chatting with Bettsy the other week and he said he had a very good goalkeeping prospect coming through. I think it's great to have two youth team players starting tonight and with a small squad this season you never know when they might be needed to play, so tonight's game is a perfect opportunity to have a look at them. Good luck to both and well done to Mark Betts and his team.
