Roystonjez
As you may have heard, Paul Attfield has stepped down as manager due to serious ill health. We have been linked in the press with Jon and Neil. Personally would love to see it, cannot actually see it happen due to distance, etc. Steve Bateman's name has been linked too..... your thoughts on him? Neil Baker
Hi Jez, can confirm 100% that there is no truth in us being linked... 100% Slough managers, and will be going nowhere (is one of the best jobs to have at this level especially with Steve as our chairman who is a dream to work with)!!! Just to nip that in the bud... strange how these rumours start, especially as we live probably 75 miles from Royston. Best of luck with the appointment whoever it may be, and look forward to saying hi when we play you in a few weeks. Bakes

Jez I think Steve Bateman lives near Hemel Hempstead, which again is quite a long way to Royston on a regular basis.
Roystonjez
Sorry Bakes, I think the press and radio were "chattering about" Baker and Underwood would be perfect for the job, which you would be. I was one of the first on the phone to say NO! Respet you totally and I would KNOW you would do a decent job for us, but personally would have a local person, who knows the leagues around us and that can get us promoted through local players to Royston. That in my eyes is what non league footy is about. Bateman, definitely no, no and no. Already had one of the Deeneys on our MB state that he is ideal. rebel voyeur
So why bother asking the question on this forum then Jez if you were personally saying no ? I cannot see that a team of purely local players as much as you might wish for will ever get you promoted, especially with the budget you are rumoured to have. Roystonjez
Because it was interesting to hear on the radio Rebel voyeur. Do I need permission to post on here?

I cannot see that a team of purely local players as much as you might wish for will ever get you promoted, especially with the budget you are rumoured to have. Probably because Jez was asking about our previous manager, and also he is in my opinion more than welcome to post - it's always interesting to have informed discussion with other team's fans, especially knowledgeable ones like Jez. GarySTFC
Just because his personal opinion is no, doesn't mean he can't source other opinions. With Bates living in Amersham and was working in Banbury, think it may be a bit too far for him. Could have seen him taking it if it was closer. Having worked with him, his knowledge of the non league game is damn good and a top man to boot.
Slough Kitman
Jez How about another pair The Deeney bothers as player coaches, could be interesting.
