Last minute decision making and I was off to one of the four remaining grounds I need in the SSML. As it turned out, I saved one of the best until last as Stony Stratford is a gem of a ground, lacking in real facilities but in a great setting behind the High Street with a church behind the far goal, plenty of large trees all around and a welcome arch at the entrance. Best of all, the small stand clad in light and dark blue, has a few benches but also, crooked crush barriers in one half for that classic seating/terrace combo. It's a bit rough around the edges and it's a fair old trek from the clubhouse, past a croquet lawn and a roped second pitch, all unlit making it fairly tricky to navigate. As is often the case in the second tier of the SSML, the football was horrible from both sides but the game was exciting with plenty of chances, most at the Stony Stratford end. Winslow deserved the points in this derby and are putting together a good string of results for a change - this is the sixth time I've seen Winslow over the years and the first time I've seen them win. Finally, it was good to see and hear some vocal home support at this level in the form of a gaggle of old boys who bantered back and forth with the handful who had come up from Winslow. Thoroughly enjoyable evening.
