Windsor 3-2 Ash

So, a great start to the day. My daughter enjoyed the firing range and the general good atmosphere around the ground before kick off, a decent crowd had gathered (over 400 on a miserable, rainy and windy day) and so the game began.

With a strong wind in Windsor's favour the home team started strongly and worked some great opportunities that they spurned. Against the run of play Ash got a penalty that from behind the Ash goal looked dubious but others closer (and most importantly the ref) thought it was a clear pen. Windsor's character showed through and an equaliser came, but at half time i wasn't sure it was enough. we realistically should have been 2 or 3 ahead, but now Ash had the wind with them.....

Ash started the second half brightly and Windsor seemed to struggle to get going, Ash almost took the lead but Windsor were starting to get back into the game. Ultimately Windsor were the better team and a great goal from Matty Day and from Kyle Lucas gave Windsor a 3-1 lead. Some fantastic close range saves from the Ash keeper, that still leave unable to contemplate how we didn't score, kept the score down and then with about 15 mins to go it was 3-2.

Once again I clearly couldn't see the other end of the pitch as there appeared to be a clear cut penalty to Ash not given. I do wonder if the dramatic manner in which he threw himself to the ground with a scream and arms flung in the air went against him.

Definitely a good 3 points and well deserved, once again we played some fantastic football but also lost concentration for short period that could cost us against a better team.

Good to see us perform well in front of decent crowd, well done to the team and lets just keep it going!!

Up the lepers!!

Nearly forgot, I wonder what the Ash player said to the ref and what caused the comment. The ref sprinted over to produce a red card pretty quickly, didn't see anything to justify it, although from the fact that Sheehan appeared to get a yellow I wonder if it was to do with Sheehan being brought down on the edge of the box and the ref giving nothing not for the first time in the match.

anybody know....?!?!

To be brutally honest, I was disappointed with the final attendance. I had hoped that we would get at least 500 through the turnstiles. And as for the Race Night, highlight for me was Carlos' raffle prize. You can't put a value on that. But I demand a stewards enquiry into the number of winners that Geggy had. Most suspicious!!!

Fuzzy, the red was for an off-the-ball elbow according to the ref.  Can't comment as I didn't see it myself but Kirby received two 'elbows' in the space of about 15 seconds just before that which weren't seen/punished.  Should have been a penalty to Ash in my opinion and I think everyone at that end of the ground thought it was but you may be right about the dramatics working against him !

Don't Blame Me, I too was disappointed with the attendance but we still tripled our normal gate so we must take the positives as I heard people telling others it was their first visit and they would be coming back again !

A big thank you though to everyone that did attend, I hope you enjoyed the day and it was all for a very good cause.  A special thanks also to Les Brown for his winning bid of £100 for the signed shirt, the proceeds of which get added to the Help For Heroes money for which the final total will be announced after Tuesday night as there may be some additions made to the total in the next couple of days !

One quick comment from me - I really like the way Kyle Lucas is developing. Now he's playing a slightly more advanced position he is creating havoc. Excellent ball control, good skills and trickery, decent pace... and he's contributing goals as well - what more could you want from a winger?

Potentially the best we've had in that position since David Pearce....?

Strange that every fan behind the goal missed the elbow, we can normally spot the most innocuous of fouls and appeal for it.

The crowd would, I believe, have been improved has the heavens not opened about an hour before kick off. But 400+ is decent, had it been 250 or so then you could question it but if we go on to attract another 10 or so regulars then it has been successful from that point of view.

Race night was great, i think Les was equally as pleased with his raffle prize of a tube of Haribo. Great to see a strong player attendance as well. Froma fans' point of view it is great to see the players at these kind of events, its what being a club, rather than just a team with fans, is all about. good job to everyone involved (even if I managed to lose on every single sodding race!!!)

And Kyle Lucas is superb, he just destroys defences for 90 mins, and you can see him improving week on week. That poor left back just didn't know what to do when he ran at him, glad to see him get a goal he deserved it.

Just keep doing what we're doing and we'll be there or thereabouts come May......
