HORNCHURCH 5 BOWERS & PITSEA 1 Hornchurch, with Carl Rook playing in defence instead of his more usual forward position, created numerous chances in the first half – Leigh Bremner almost scored in the first five minutes with a hard shot which Michael Doyle turned around the post, Tambeson Eyong headed wide from a Joey May corner, and George Purcell twice went close. Bowers were mainly forced to defend, but twice broke forward, and on each occasion were denied by excellent by Inigo Echepare. Leigh Bremner went close with a solo run, but it was Bowers who scored shortly before half time when SEAN HARRIS scored a spectacular goal from thirty yards. Hornchurch continued to press after the interval, and almost levelled when Purcell’s shot was cleared off the line and around the post. JOEY MAY took the corner and Kofi Billy attempted headed clearance went into the net. Hornchurch went ahead three minutes later when another Joey May corner was headed home by ELLIOT STYLES. Michael Doyle punched away a May corner three minutes later, but only as far as GEORGE PURCELL, who promptly fired the ball into the net. Two minutes later GEORGE PURCELL was brought down inside the area, and, after a short delay for two bookings, he neatly converted the penalty. Bowers then lost their manager, who was ordered from the dug-out, presumably for dissent, and Hornchurch Sibu Muwanga for Leigh Bremner, with Carl Rook moving into the forward line. Chris Bourne twice went close after good runs on the left, and Ade Yusuff, on for Purcell, could have increased the scoreline, but hit his shot narrowly wide. Bowers could have pulled a goal back from a free kick, the ball striking the post and coming back out, but Hornchurch made it five when substitute Gonzalo Onega made the opening for JOEY MAY to convert. Dagger03
Two further bookings to add - Brad Webb and Sean harris were both shown a yellow card immediately prior to the penalty. There was one other booking late on but I don't know who it was (it was a Bowers player). And one of their officials was ordered from the bench on 63 mins - it was not the manager and I do not know the name of the person ordered off. paokman
Not a bad attendance on the night, embarrassed I didn't make the effort. But I do have a note from my mum. And I'll be at Lowestoft on Saturday
