AUFC v Slough Town - Match Thread

I spoke to one of the Aylesbury player after the game I asked him " Why did you celebrate so much with a draw at home"

The answer was clear         " Three easy points was it "

So that says to me things do make a difference what is said on here.

I think they celebrated more because they came back from being dead and buried at 3-1.

Someone on the Aylesbury forum summed it up perfectly 'Aylesbury deserved a point because of their character'.

Over the 90 minutes we created a lot more chances than Aylesbury but either didn't get the rub of the green, especially in the first half, or poor finishing let us down.

At 3-1 it was almost as if we thought the game was won. We dropped off far too deep and our midfield disappeared allowing Aylesbury to mount attack after attack which inevitably led to two free shots on the edge of our area resulting in one deflected goal and one goal which was a good strike.

Hopefully a lesson learnt that we really need to concentrate for the full 90 minutes.

Yet it says to me you don't understand soccer-no half decent footballer would worry about what is said on here. When you pull on yer boots and line up to kick off yer only thought should be about winning,no point in playing otherwise.

I thought it would be a tricky game because the management say all teams in this league are Strong( though of course we realise that's not the case don't we all ).

We agree with Nathan 2 points thrown away in our book.

The way I see this is, any manager worth their salt will use this tactic in their pre-match team talk, i.e. "Slough think this will be an easy three points". We will always get this in this league in my opinion, but the opposition won't always react the same to it. I would be willing to bet Steve Bateman used this in his team talk before Mansfield last season too. The higher our expectations (which over the last 5 years has been a promotion challenge), the more the opposition will use it to inspire them. So in summary, I wouldn't put yesterday down to that, it was due to sitting too deep and defending poorly at crucial moments, and we threw two points away when in control.

Perhaps controversially, looking at the league table, the next four games are against sides in the lower reaches of the table, so I'd hope we will get back to winning ways to put us in the mix!

Taking Matt's point further, I think the next 4 games will determine where we will be going with this season, win all 4 and we are pushing for a top 3 place, less than 6 points and we will struggle to make the play offs.

I know it is still early in the season but there are a fair number of teams who are over 2 points per game, and we are on only 1.8 points per game - these 4 games will either bring us up to and over the magic 2 or leave us trying to catch up.

As has been seen there are no guaranteed 3 point games.

There are a few on 2 points per game, however teams have to play each other, lots of points to be played for etc, as long as we are in contention come Christmas we will be happy, as let's be honest if it hadn't been for the start we would be flying....

Felt we were very unfortunate yesterday, if they don't get that huge deflection for their second goal, we probably see the game out comfortably and possibly go on and score another.

On another day we could have scored 6 or 7.

We were disappointed with our reaction to the first goal, when Sommers pushed it wide, they were following up, and we had switched off, the second you can't do much about, and unfortunately as is football when a team gets back like that, they are going to pile on the pressure, and it told in the end, I wouldn't say we defended badly as a team, just switched off a couple of times, and got punished.

However we almost snatched it at the death.

With all the chances we had, they could almost have gone 2 up, which would have been totally unjust, but that does also happen in football sometimes.

What I did say in the changing room afterwards is football tends to even itself out, and in reality out of the last 2 games, we probably only deserved 4 points.

We are 6 unbeaten in the league now, with 4 wins and 2 draws, that is play off form.

Thought our fans (with the exception of one, and i think most know who i mean) were excellent yesterday, and it created a really good atmosphere, just gutted we were unable to hold on to the 3 points, but I think you appreciated the efforts the lads put in on a terrible pitch, and I was delighted with the round of applause they got coming off the pitch.

Onwards and upwards!! Rebels

Nathan, how many ' good' teams from the premiership downwards have, in the past, thrown away points when in the lead?

RR, these things happen in football to all teams, good or bad. I accept that.

I'm simply looking at the bigger picture, looking back at games this past week, and it's clear to me that the team is not yet the finished article, and still needs serious work before we can be considered title (or maybe even play-off) contenders.

But who knows? Maybe the next 32 games will prove me wrong?

While it was frustrating to come back with only a point from 3-1 up, we were very close to being 2-0 down at one point so I'm not too unhappy to come away with the draw.  As long as the team will learn from the experience then hopefully we will not be seeing this too often.  As Mark said, it's actually hard to pick out a player amongst our defence who had a bad game yesterday, as they all looked solid, their second goal was one of those bits of luck that can turn games.  We are still on an unbeaten run in the league, hopefully this will continue for some time yet.

We are looking forward to Tuesdays game against yet another strong side in Chalfont, don't go thinking this will be easy, maybe if we give them a confidence boost they may think Slough will be an easy touch and ease off, lets hope so.

We thought that piece was constructive-not a single derogative word there. There is no one who wants Slough to succeed more than us, why you take umbrage at different views is beyond us-we always believed that soccer forums were for different opinions regardless. Maybe we are wrong and its a forum for polishing egos.

What was your opinion of the pitch at Leighton Hotspur? do you think it was a great leveller ? Do you think it effected the way we played and do you think it made the Ducks a stronger team?
