OldTowner
Interesting comment within the web site note regarding the trip to Maidstone. Mentions current injuries and possible new players. There is certainly a lot of player movement around the Ryman Prem Clubs - see various non-league web links. Kingstonian, Wealdstone, Maidstone and Canvey all in for new players in last 24 hours. OldTowner
Canvey Sands ( actually, there is no beach ) Canvey sign John Sands from Bury ( a great goal-scorer at this level ) "allegedly" cost £5,000. ( who knows ? ) + large signing on fee + a New Car. And they say that there is no money around !!
thecoldend
Canvey are also in the fourth qualifying round of the cup tomorrow. that's £15,000 in prize money so far + a potential £12,500 if they win at Biggleswade Town and then a potential HOME first round tie against league oppostition. they are taking four coach loads of fans to Bedfordshire so it shows there is alot of potential for footy on the Island particularly as Concord taking a bundle of fans to Barnet..... OldTowner
Just goes to show what a "winning team" can do. Lessons to be learnt perhaps !!
Steve Newing
We would all have liked an FA Cup run , maybe just maybe games against a mid table step 4 side , a bottom 3 step 3 side and a bottom 6 step 4 side , might have given us more chance to do so . I remember when we were step 4 side in Steve's 2nd season and we got some luck with the draw beating Waltham Forest , Arlesly and Worthing all teams at the same level. We then lost 3rd qualifying round to Borehamwood . That's the luck of the draw. Mind you we lost to Stotfold the next season , but we did get promoted so some consolation
Enfield United
And at Boreham Wood we only had Sam Byfield and Bryan Hammett as attacking options cos of injuries to Blackburn and others at the time
CD Towner
Why are we talking about (and still making excuses) for a game nearly 4 years ago??? EU your defence of the management is admirable!
Enfield United
LOL I can even go back to the double replays v Wealdstone in the FA Cup on a Freezing Mid Week encounter in the 80's cursing bad luck, I was'nt defending anyone just recalling that game and the situation that was. Steph
Well if Malcom Mitchell hadn't broken his arm in 1964 we would have won the Amateur Cup then. Btw spoke to the former Maidstone keeper in1967 and realise I got my dates wrong. Terry Howard did not follow instructions in the 1967 final against Skelmersdale and wad dropped for the replay. andyetfc
I remember the captain of Hungary playing with a broken arm, as did Franz Beckanbeur.
