Slough Town V Marlow

think its fair enough what Nathan is saying. if Marlow were more composed and clinical early on it could have been a huge uphill struggle. at the end of day though games just don't turn out that way with every chance going in. we stuck more chances away than them that's the main thing

Marlow were certainly a better team than when we last played them and they gave us a tough game. However fair play to Smith for taking his chances when they came. And we did stick at it and looked better in the second half. Fair play to the teams for coming out in the heavy rain after half time, wouldn't have blamed them or the ref if they'd waited to see if it eased off.

I thought Sean Fraser had a very good game as did Guy Hollis. Was good to see Warren Harris back but a little concerned about how Darren Wheeler was playing very narrow especially in the first half when there was a quarter of the pitch there to be exploited. When he did pop up on his wing though his crosses were looking dangerous.

Another important result ahead of a run of 3 away games. Time to start securing a place in the playoffs.

A good win against a very good Marlow side, well done to both teams for playing in such terrible conditions.

Also a massive thank you to my darling husband and brother who both THOUGHT I shouldn't be in my tin hut during the lightening storm but neither bothered to leave the comfort of the stand to let me know !!!!!!!!

Dont even go there Warren or you Eddie !

Just to give you a bit of insight on this one from our perspective. Sometimes you have to change your shape a little when you are 2nd best which to be fair is what we were for the first 20-25 mins. The game was so open and they were winning the midfield battle so we made the decision to tuck our wide players in and be a bit more solid. We felt this worked, particularly in the 2nd half when we closed the game right up and were quite happy to keep it tight at 1-0. Delighted with our response when they scored and thought the lads worked ever so hard to hang on to the points in the last 10 mins against a decent side who played very well on the night. A big 3 points!

Delighted with the win, we showed last night that we can dig in and grind out a result - something we'll have to do a few more times if we want to get promotion this season. Very impressed with Marlow first half, in particular their number 8 was possibly the best opposition player I've seen this season. But they didn't take their chances and we have one of the best in league in Eddie Smith who took ours. It was a more even contest second half and as the managers have said, very pleasing that we reacted so well after their equaliser. Well done to the lads.

I think Ed is out for a few games now is he not? The challenge now is to show we can win games and score goals without him.

Yes unfortunately Eddie goes to the US tomorrow and misses these next 3 league games. His mum is going out there to live and it's just something he has to do for her unfortunately that is out of our control.

Johnnie Dyer was diagnosed with a kidney infection at the weekend and is currently on antibiotics and we are hoping that he will return at the weekend. It's a problem he's had for a few weeks but we weren't sure what it was until last weekend when Kev correctly worked out the problem and sent him to see his GP for confirmation.

Whether JD is fit or not we are still planning to bring in a forward to cover Eddie's absence and make sure we keep this momentum going in the league. We will hopefully have positive news on this one in the coming days.

Certainly impressed with Marlow's performance tonight.

Also Impressed with the way the team got themselves back into the game after being out played for the first 25 minutes.

Hard earned but excellent 3 points.

Thought Guy Hollis and Jake Sommerville were outstanding tonight.

Good win against a very competitive and creative Marlow team.

Well done for grinding out a well earned 3 points.

Marlow worked very hard and Jake made some good saves in 1st half.

Sean worked very well along with Ryan who both had to defend well against  a free running Marlow attack.

Team well led by Dave Woozley with a solid performance from Guy.

I felt on occasions we were too narrow and looked more dangerous when Darren and Warren had room to

attack defenders. Our work rate was good but perhaps need to close down and get tighter when not in possession.

Once again Ed proved what a dangerous goal taker he is.

Looking forward to next 3 away games where I hope we maximise our position,

COYR.

I have to say I'm surprised that I've elicited such a reaction!

I was NOT meaning to slag the team off, or downplay the result at all. It is a very good thing that they weren't dwelling on Saturday and have got that result out of their system.

However, that's not the same thing as saying (as I was simply trying to) that tonight we were far from our best, and that a better side than Marlow (yes, I know that you can only beat what's in front of you!) would have been out of sight within 20 minutes. That's completely different.

But as I said, a win's a win, and we can and will play much better that we did tonight.

You are not allowed to be critical on here Nathan even if it is honest and constructive utterings, so you must be positive, tell the truth. It is has you say, we could have been down and out after 20 mins, but we won GREAT ! AND EVERYONE IS HAPPY !-It is called wallpapering over the cracks.

Don't think anyone has a problem with open minded constructive commentary at all. It. Is the downright negative, closed opinion that is frowned upon. Nobody should be beyond criticism and this forum should certainly not be a place where only positive views are allowed, but the criticisms should be aired correctly and promote discussion without being rude or attacking individuals.

Onto last night, have to echo some of the points above. Thought Marlow were a good side and should have been in front at half time having missed three very good chances. We looked a lot better in the second half and deserved to edge it though but hunk Marlow will do very well this season and will surprise a few teams. Looked a very good outfit for long spells last night so to come away with three points without having been at our best is a very good sign.

Great ability to change the formation to absorb the Marlow strength and turn it into our advantage during that rain soaked second half. From being second best in the first half but defending really well, to the attacking force we know and love, in the second half.

I definitely had a lot more closer photos to take in the second half

As Unders said, I massive 3 points, as was our win against Rugby.

Yes I was nervous about this game since Marlow had beaten the S&W league leaders North Leigh 4-1 in the Trophy last week North Leigh being one of the few teams to beat Merthyr this season And as others have said Marlows failure to convert relatively easy chances cost them dearly Im very excited about the next three games Our three opponents have just 1 home win between them and our next opponent Aylesbury United are the only team in the league without a single point at home even without Ed I feel we should add 9 points from these games.

I like your positivity Irish.

If only football was that easy to predict.

On a bit closer inspection, Aylesbury have only played 3 league games at home, against Rugby, Royston and a local derby against Aylesbury FC, three tough games.

They have however won 3 cup matches at home.

Losing your top striker is always a concern.

We might have a new striker to replace Ed on Saturday. How quickly he blends with the team might be a deciding factor to the outcome.

I don't think its disrespectful to correctly identify the poor teams in the league there will always be some The league usually divides into a top group where you hope for the best but expect anything a middle group where you would expect/hope to do well and a poor group where you should be expecting to take the points imo Even now at this early stage there is a reason why some teams are performing poorly I was criticised not long ago for suggesting we would score 3 or 4 goals against Ashford (which we did) since then Ashford have lost every league game conceding an average of 4 They are very poor this season and saying so is just being accurate and truthful
