Midweek Games - Tuesday/Wednesday 22/23 October

Recommended Posts

Was a good cup tie last night.  They scored with their first shot at goal early on.  We scored from a bad back pass just before half-time, then had one cleared off the line straight after which could possibly have been handball on the line.  We dominated the second half, but couldn't score.  We scored a penalty and looked like we would go on and win it, but we seemed to run out of steam and they found a bit extra.  They levelled from a corner and then won it at the death from another corner with what turned out to be a handball by our former player Kane Dougherty.  One of our players was then sent off for protesting.  A good game played in the right spirit.  The Cold End was in attendance, so hopefully there will be some highlights online soon.

1-2 Southall v Hanwell Town Reserves

A very good performance from our reserve team who were down to the bare bones. Two very good goals by E.Casey who had a really good game and never stopped running.

Well done Hanwell Town FC Reserves.

I never saw the sending off. The handball incidents will be cleared up with the replay online tonight

It was straight after the goal.  Scott Rennie was adamant Kane punched it in.  Wasn't sure myself, but the ref said he booked him for telling him what he thought and he just carried on, so the ref gave him a second yellow.  As you say though, Non League's answer to Gary Neville will clear it up ;-)

More highlights below of the great Baldock v Codicote trophy game which was rather good.

talking points -

4m 30secs - penalty or no penalty?

7m 5secs - penalty given for foul to Baldock.

8m 29 secs - Cod's winner scored by Kane Dougherty.....   was it handball, ball to hand or knee or any other body part??

DIVISION ONE

0-2 Wodson Park v Bedford

A report and photos from another Forum:

Spartan South Midlands League

Division One

Wodson Park 0 Bedford 2

Admission, £5.00

Programme (included with admission)

A rare midweek new ground for me. Located next to Ware FC. Decent first half that saw Bedford take a 12th minute lead.

HALF-TIME 0-1

The second half was nowhere near as good as the first. Chances for both sides. The visitors wrapped up the points with a second goal on the 46th minute mark. Although not a great half, this 45 minutes plus was far better than the absolute dross I saw the night before at Oakside between Redbridge and Maldon & Tiptree. In fact the pre-match handshake here was more interesting to watch than the entire 90 insufferable minutes witnessed on the 22nd October. Met up with Herb Alpert at the ground and gave him a lift home.

PREMIER DIVISION

1-3 London Lions v Harefield United

A report from another Forum:

South Midlands Premier

LONDON LIONS 1-3 HAREFIELD UNITED

Admission & Programme £6.00 Tea 90p Coffee £1.00

With Plan A (Chesham Reserves) off due to Southall having a more pressing engagement - a Middlesex Cup tie, it was back to Plan B to ensure my food stocks didn't go to waste. A bit of a Runwellian journey stuck behind some T**T incapable of exceeding 40mph and finding the car park effectively full owing to the 3G pitch being used. A few spaces materialised at half-time enabling me to put my car somewhere more appropriate and eat one of my Scotch eggs.

It seems LL have taken over our mantle of throwing leads and games away and tonight was no exception as Harefield ran out easy winners. Programme was as brief as ever - even more so given that the manager's position is vacant, there was no previous match report (although TBF it was a 7-0 humping at Ampthill) and although Harefield were correctly named on the front, the back cover listed the AFC Dunstable team.

PREMIER DIVISION

2-0 Hanwell Town v Cockfosters

A report from an anorak on another Forum:

Spartans South Midlands League - Hanwell Town 2 Cockfosters 0 - Admission £6 incl programme - Attendance approx 50

Also planned to be at Hullbridge Sports, which went early, and with the weather forecast to be wet, I decided against venturing to my plans B and C of Herne Bay and Burnham Ramblers respectively as I would have been really hacked off going to either from London to get a late postponement.

Plan D entailed going home, getting the car and driving to another ground that I hadn't been to before in Hanwell Town, although the North Circular being bumper to bumper for miles due to an accident near Park Royal meant that I had to go through Neasden, Harlesden etc to get around the traffic.

Got there with 15 minutes to spare and saw a good match, full of good attacking football from both teams and the standard was well above most step 5 matches that I've seen. The pitch looked excellent, and despite the heavy rain in the second half, it coped well.

Hanwell have a striker in Bill Healey who had scored hat-tricks in each of his last three matches, and his dummy let in Michael Buckley to slide the ball past the keeper for the opener on 18 minutes.

Cockfosters were outplayed for most of the first half and when Oliver Duffy made it two early in the second half, it looked all over, but they made a double substitution which seemed to pep them up a fair bit and they had their best spell of the match but somehow couldn't put the ball in the net, courtesy of over elaboration at times, bad luck and a clearance off the line.

Both Herne Bay and Burnham Ramblers matches went ahead and both sounded exciting, but as I got into my car in the car park outside the ground, I thought that I really wouldn't have fancied the walk from either ground to the station in the pouring rain, and as I was indoors in the warm by 10.15, I guess that I made the wisest choice.
