Saturday 19th October

Recommended Posts

Post from the TK forum, seems strange they were short. The reserves won at Buckingham Athletic (those first team weren't playing) so must have been no shows on the day

Spartan South Midlands League, Division One -
Langford 0 Sun Postal Sports 6
Headcount 27
Admission £5 including programme (12-page insert within a 20-page ad shell)
Pint of Fosters shandy £2.90, coffee £1

A bizarre game. Despite 16 agreeing last night to make the match, Langford could only muster 9 players, with a portly bloke in his 50's making a 10th after 25 minutes. A skilful SPS who would have won this with 11-a-side apiece scored after 41 seconds and, when it was 2-0 after 11 minutes I feared an avalanche, but Langford keeper Michael Parkin was outstanding, and his teammates were heroic to the point that SPS were made to go back on the pitch 8 minutes into the break as their manager was furious they'd only scored 3 goals from 30 chances. Two of the goals for Dan Tompkins' hat-trick came in the last 9 minutes. which emphasises the courage and commitment of Langford's heroes to keep battling.

Highlights of Kneworth Res v HODDESDON TOWN RESERVES in the Herts Intermediate Cup Round One. As the 1-7 scoreline suggests Hoddy were much the better side and it could of been double figures had it not been for some good saves made by the K's keeper. With the score a 1-3 K's put in a contender for miss of the season as you can see from 6m 30secs on the video -

Risborough 0 Kings Langley 1

Fair report on the Langley website as we were poor and they weren't much better, but ground out the result on an off day for them. Still trying to work out how my lad didn't get a penalty after being literally rugby tackled by a Langley defender at a corner although there was similar going on with the Risborough defenders at the other end. It seems there are a different set of rules at set pieces than in open play and perhaps a referee could explain why this is?

The rules are the same no matter where the offence took place - the difference is the match officials interpretation.

Likewise if you asked 100 different people watching the game you would get different versions of events.

I feel it happens with all sorts of fouls. i think there is sometimes a little doubt in the referees and they might think "is that enough for a penalty?". It shouldn't be like that but happens across all levels of the game. How many times do you see free kicks given against defenders on the half way line for pushing yet rarely penalties given for it in the area? I have a player in my team who must give away at least 4/5 free kicks away for that offence a game. I struggle to believe he doesn't commit the same sort of offence in the area at corners.

There are of course other factors as quite often line of sight and angles are worse for corners due to number of players in a condensed area.

Heard a rumour the KTFC manager quit after the game

That wouldn't surprise me, maybe the Club will go cap in hand to Clement Temile to see if the so called 'great one' is willing to return

Just what someone came in and said they overheard. Glad to hear it, never want to see a side struggle. Except Buck Ath maybe lol

Pleased to see you pick up 3 points and clean sheet tonight
