slough 2 staines 2

A well fought game with pleanty of action and incident but let down by the officials (again)

Slough were swithched on and worked hard and deserved a win, but were denyied by a disallowed goal that was alleged to be of side by the lino.

How the goal was offside, no one could work out.

Wilko worked hard with his usual "gutsy" play and was unlucky to recieve a yellow card for retaliating to a bad tackle.

Good to see Tony Boot fit.

It is still worrying that we are mid table and only picking up single points at home.

Good to see Boot back although I don't think he had much of an impact aside from scoring the penalty. First half we were much the better side. Don't quite know what happened at half time, but they certainly came out and took the game to us and were the better side - great first goal for them as well, what a strike! (reminds me of Sammy's last season against Harlow)

More disappointing, no atmosphere until the penalty (Stag Meadow really is a morgue of a ground), more verbals at the final whistle between Slough supporters and opposing players and officials although this wasn't helped by the celebrations of the keeper after they went in front. But having said that, we should know how to behave better.

One incident which stuck in my mind was the referee's booking of Browne for throwing the ball away, yet when a similar incident happened in the first half, their player walks away with no action. He wasn't really consistent.

Also, the linesman who ruled out Millers goal. I didn't realise that you could be offside when the ball was played backwards, or the player receiving the ball ran from behind the player making the pass?

I don't know why goalkeepers try winding up opposing fans when there's time left to play and anything can happen. The idiot today got all he deserved. Not sure what all the squabbling outside the dressing rooms was about though.

Thought Wilko, Adi Browne and particularly Alex Haddow put in great performances today. As for Staines they struck me as being the Hemel Hempstead of Division 1 South.

Well let me get my breath back,i thought we played some of our best football this season in the first half, however what happended in the second????

The poor standard of officiating doesn't shock ma any more as im used to watching a [****!!****] ref every week.

Looks like it is only away games we can get a good atmosphere going - Shame.

Overall i think a point a piece wad fair, lets just try to play for 90 minutes not just 45, AND WHY IS DANNY STEER NOT PLAYING?!?!?!

Still interesting to see we're persisting with three centre backs (all without pace). I think it only works with Howard playing as a sweeper. Think Harris is underutilised in the middle as he ends up playing too deep and would be more suited to the right hand side with Boot playing behind the front two in the middle. Spencer still only performs in fits and bursts and perhaps a kick up the backside might just give him the boost he needs to return to the top of his game.

Haddow continues to do well in the centre of midfield, works hard with a bit of pace and creates a bit going forward, Wilko covers for Haddows ventures forward but needs to work on his distribution (as do the back three - too many high long balls) and Barras is only showing glimpses of what we know he is capable of. I think Steer has been hard done by through being dropped but how about a 4-4-2??

Fossie

Barrowcliff (LB), Daly & Murphy(CB), Howard (RB)

Steer (LM), Haddow & Wilkinson (CM), Harris/Spencer (RM)

Boot & Hodge (ST)

Subs:

Browne, Bartley, Payne, Harris/Spencer, Miller

The problem outside the changing rooms, as I saw it...again the crowd were wound up by the silly antics of the the staines goalkeeper and the fact the Staines officals did not like the fact that Slough got their penalty ! and were saying we were cheats.....very sad really as the game was over the result was 2-2 and no one could change this .... its only a game....lads and lasses...

As Ian stated the goal keeper got his all he deserved from the Slough crowd for his antics, he could give the medicine out, but when Slough got the 2 goal he could not take it !!!

For once Slough got a bit of justice.....

cheers Chris

see u all wednesday.....

Not sure how being awarded a penalty constitutes cheating. There's not a player or supporter in the country who wouldn't have appealed for that, particularly at 2-1 down with seconds remaining. Whether the penalty is given or not is down to the officials and the linesman had a far better view than most people.

It wasn't the first time this has happened this season, and probably won't be the last. It has the potential to cause us problems---a simple solution might be to switch ends wherever possible so we finish with our fans behind the goal at the other end.
