BILLERICAY TOWN 7 HORNCHURCH 2 Hornchurch, with several three players making their debut, started well, when George Purcell ran on to a Joey May free kick, only to hit his shot straight at Billy Lumley. Billericay quickly set the scene when, in their first attack, they twice hit the bar. Hornchurch went close when Purcell’s hard hit free kick was well saved by Lumley, and Sam Lechmere fired wide after cutting in from the left wing. Billericay went ahead midway through the first half when RICHARD HALLE headed home from a well-flighted Glenn Poole free kick, and the second goal soon followed, when a long ball from the right found a completely unmarked EVANS KOUASSI on the wide-open left flank. He ran forward and finished with a hard shot from the edge of the area. It was Kouassi who created several openings from the left, and when he ran along the wing and sent the ball across into the goalmouth JAMES ROBINSON was waiting to touch home the third goal. Michael Spencer briefly relieved the pressure with a good run on the left which ended with his shot going wide of the far post, but Billericay scored shortly before the interval when Luke Roberts could only parry a long range shot and CHRIS WEBBER followed up to prod the ball into the net. Hornchurch came more into the match in the second half, and Purcell went close after good work by Ade Yusuff. Hornchurch opened up the home defence when Purcell moved in from the left, and his low cross rolled invitingly across the goal, with Yusuff unable to get the touch needed. Hornchurch pulled a goal back when SAM LECHMERE lobbed the ball over both Lumley and a defender, whilst Roberts was again in action at the other end, saving from Poole. GLEN POOLE scored the fifth goal after opening up the Hornchurch defence, and, after Purcell had again sent the ball across the goalmouth with no one able to get the final touch, ISAAC LAYNE, who had made several good runs since coming on as substitute, finished off a cross from the left wing. JAMES ROBINSON finished off a similar move to score the seventh goal. Hornchurch had introduced Frankie Curley, Leigh Bremner and Alex Bentley, and enjoyed much more of the territorial play, and Lumley made a good save from a well struck Gonzalo Onega free kick. With the last move of the match Purcell opened up the home defence with an excellent run and shot and ALEX BENTLEY followed up to score.
