It's Merthyr Town

Just because the winning side, in any given game, is stronger/luckier it doesn't mean the losing team is not a strong side as well.

For example.. Man Utd losing to WBA doesn't make them a weak side and they were not publicly saying that it was going to be an easy game before kick off, even if most of them thought privately it would be an easy 3 points before they kicked off.

As said on here before, publicaly, belittling teams, either direct or through what is clearly negative sarcasm only helps the other team.

There is a position other than at either extreme, that can be taken, and is taken by 95% of people on here

Neil...Noticed you don't come on as much now.

You made a genuine attempt to give a view of the game and our next opponents, however as you see it was greeted in some quarters by a sarcastic response.

You must be asking yourself why you bother? I think most do appreciate  your efforts to keep the genuine fans updated.

Keep up the work the majority appreciate your efforts and your team are starting to put a run together...........

Michael stfc said " any manager worth their salt doesn't denegrate their opposition ahead of the game. It's not to cover themselves, it's to look professional, to show some class ", tell us then why do they have to say anything. previous managers on the whole never mentioned the opposition !

Anyhow

Took the bait hook line and sinker !!!! Thankfully real fishing offers more sport and a challenge !!!!!

Keep going Neil and Jon ...............COYR

About your limit  we would imagine-ripping the mouths of poor defence less fish-another blood sport in our book should be banned.

I really don't believe you don't know the answer to that question, Mr. Experience.

Brighton - not guilty. Tony, Wayne, Richie and few others. I was staying at in laws near border, drove down on day to find off. Watched Merthyr train on the unplayable pitch!  Watched Wales v England rugby with a few beers in clubhouse. Still a good day out!

Personally I thought it was great pre and early season when the managers came on to these forums and gave their opinions and insights in to how the squad was developing and their pre and post analysis of matches, and I thought it was an excellent way to build engagement with regular fans and entice the occasional fan to possibly come to more matches and increase attendances...... it is unfortunate that it appears a very few opinionated, very vocal and overly critical individuals on this forum have led to the managers posting less frequently.

Somebody has mentioned on the MYFC site that Merthyr have received permission from the league and will start using an artificial pitch for league matches from the 15th October...... I'm not sure if artificial pitches are permitted in the FA Trophy though if our match does go to a replay.

We cannot see anything wrong with managers coming on here to update team and resulted games details, our point was that they say every team we have to play are a strong side-and we just wondered if it was a safety net for the players if we lost-certainly they would have to agree that not all the opposition have been strong.

As for your other points we are not sure that them being forthcoming on here would increase attendances as only a very small percentage use the forum.

Also we thought forums were for honest opinions where merited-but you will have noticed when certain individuals don't like the truth they try (and fail) to be funny or discredit what's being debated.

Where have we said Merthyr  are a poor side-the original debate was that our manager keeps saying every side we are due to play is a strong side, and subsequently have been proven wrong eg: Kettering, Royston etc.

Who is the 'we',Hotspur ?  Is it you and your fan club?! ha ha ha!

I understand your notion, to which you think Neil is saying every team is a strong side but I think you are doing a great dis-service to Neil's management style and the respect he carries forward on behalf of the club.

Horsham Rebel has pointed out clearly the reasons for bigging up or underplaying them, the opposition, on his post on this thread.

If Slough Town FC managers went around telling all and sundry that their team would wipe the floor with every team they face, would you,Hotspur,be happy then?

Of course, you wouldn't because when they lost, you would then say 'they shouldn't go around giving it large'.

I've come to the conclusion,Hotspur, that as the old Chas and Dave song goes there 'Ain't No Pleasing You' ! ! !

No of course they should not go round saying that-but equally neither should they say a team is strong opposition when they clearly are not-best to keep quiet we reckon !

Totally agree,Curtis.

The new managers have been a breath of fresh air with their open approach to the forum and shouldn't be put off by detractors or antagonists.Understand it is a fine balancing act for them not to get embroiled in some discussions/debating points, and they've been right to abstain from voicing their opinions on everything that goes on,on here.

If Steve Bateman had taken the same action, as the new incumbents of the manager's job have, then he may well of had a far easier ride in the latter part of his tenure at the club.Unfortunately he chose not to.

Neither did Bob Gibbs-Tommy Laurence-L.Churchill-T. Reardon-D.Kemp etc etc.

Yes we know in some of those early managers there was no computers but they had 3 local papers to speak to if they wanted to say how strong the opposition were. But they didn't !

Forums on computers are a modern invention.Managers get slagged off by the crowd at matches. All managers will tell you that.

Local papers present the manager's opinion as well as their own but rarely can a fan address what is said within it.

Steve Bateman said that many of us fans were keyboard warriors last season for our views on this forum. He singled out Cookham Rebel in particular, who I think raised some interesting points, athough not to every fans taste, got singled out which I thought was wrong.

I would like to see him rejoin us on here but I don't suppose he will.

Hotspur, you are entitled to your opinion but are the wind-ups/name calling necessary?
