It's Merthyr Town

In another replay tonight Cirencester beat Didcot 7-1 I can remember how many people slagged off the Rebels for losing to them in the FA Cup Well they've progressed two more rounds since then are unbeaten in 10 games and if they win games in hand they could top their league A very sound side and no shame to have lost to them imo.

Really good game between Merthyr and Yate tonight, in what was well contested...

Both sides played at a good tempo, and whilst Merthyr dominated the first half (with a few half chances for Yate) it was a completely different story second half, and I am not quite sure how it did not at least go to extra time.

The Merthyr keeper made a couple of great saves, and Yate were guilty of missing some great chances...

Merthyr however are a very strong side, and will be a decent game at our place no doubt, and hopefully they will bring a cross a sizeable contingent too.

Groan!  The two clubs whose results I look for first.  Having supported my local club Merthyr for years, I first saw the Rebels when they played Merthyr at Wexham Park in the Conference, in about 1989 I think, on a freezing winter day - possibly Boxing Day or New Years Day.  Tommy Hutchinson, who'd famously scored for both sides in a Cup Final, was on the Merthyr staff. Can't remember the score.

Like us they've had their ups and downs and had to relocate at one time.

Yet another STRONG SIDE-every team we play seems to be a strong side-can you see a pattern forming here ( should we lose a game, its ok they were a strong side.)

Merthyr Town are fifth in the South West division with 19 points from nine matches (6 wins 1 draw 2 defeats)..... probably a similar quality to Royston or Dunstable.

Their two defeats have been away to North Leigh and Paulton Rovers (1st and 3rd in their division).

I haven't seen them play, but I'm impressed Neil Baker has either taken the time to travel to Yate to watch them or had someone else watch them for him.

I'll be going to their friendly game against a Cardiff City XI at the Cigg-e Stadium (aka Penydarren Park) tomorrow night, so am up for a scouting mission.

The game is the first one to be played on their new 4G surface.

I suppose Maidenhead are piss poor and we should walk through this weekends game? Then it's Wycombe in the next round. Sod it, Let's just put the U18 out for that.

Hotspur, your boring mate!

Sometimes I wonder what we expect in a game. It almost seems that we are expected to beat everyone by a big margin or we have failed. Whilst some sides are stronger than others, I don't believe any of the sides are crap in our division, and given a good bit of fortune all teams will beat someone (last season, for the first time I recall Woodford did fail to get any points). If results always went to 'form' we could all make some money. Guess what, it doesn't always happen. At the beginning of the season after one game Arsenal were 'rubbish' according to the media sages. When I looked yesterday they were top of the premier, if by their fingertips. Yes, I would love to see us win every game and in my early days they pretty nearly did. There is nothing like getting behind the team to make a difference. Whilst respecting people will have different opinions, it would be really good to see more positivity. I have seen a lot more optimism for the last five years now and it would be grand to give this one more heave from us supporters.

Just how serious we are shows in the effort put in by our managers in checking out our rivals. You know they will even joke with you from the dug-out as well!

Up the Rebels!

We think you did not understand what you had read-it wasn't us who says every side we play are strong-in fact more like the opposite!

That won't be Wycombe's first eleven more like their under 18's by the way.

As for the peeps who think its exceptional to watch the next rounds opponents-most managers worth their salt do it.Some managers even watch their next league opponents and of course if you have two managers it should be easier. We know a supporter who went to Yate how praiseworthy is that?

They may well be a better side now, given their unbeaten run and the confidence that's brought them but we really should have turned them over on our home turf,as they were nothing special then.

Unfortunately Slough didn't do themselves justice that day.

A touch of realism would help you out ,Hotspur.

Curtis, has rightly pointed out their current record,so that tells you that Merthyr are no mugs at our level.Slough cannot live on past glories.

A team with a winning mentality takes time to build. Slough are off and running now under the new regime but surely,Hotspur,we shouldn't take teams for granted. Merthyr have a good pedigree as Slough have and so I certainly wouldn't expect an easy game.

If we play to our strengths,we will give a good account of ourselves, and with a bit of luck we may beat them but one never knows.

On paper,it certainly looks like it will be a well contested game and one I'm immensely looking forward to watching.

Where have we said Merthyr  are a poor side-the original debate was that our manager keeps saying every side we are due to play is a strong side, and subsequently have been proven wrong eg: Kettering, Royston etc.

How many managers have said Slough are a strong side and ended up turning us over? Quite a few. You say any manager worth their salt scouts opposition. Equally, any manager worth their salt doesn't denegrate their opposition ahead of the game. It's not to cover themselves, it's to look professional, to show some class.

You should try it sometime as the majority of your comments only serve to make you look arrogant, classless and moronic.
