Wexham park

Cornish Rebel

Recommended Posts

It was locked (not by me). Once every couple of months a thread starts up about Wexham Park, supposedly being tarted up, will we return etc.

The fact is, we won't return. It is in the past and repetitive threads about the place, opening up at a time when we're battling for Arbour Park doesn't do anything to help.

The same reason as why the club has backed away from this forum, people on here don;t see what harm it is doing the club.

I.E. slatting other clubs or fans and in this case putting the idea out there of going back to W/P

Still flogging that ludicrous idea that the club in some way suffers when the opposition are slated. Wexham Park was a part of our heritage why should people not discuss it. The real problem Nathan is there are too many sycophants on here don't let them persuade you against your beliefs.

I don't think any of the posts about wexham park have ever indicated that Slough town would ever return to play there or that people thought they would. This ground was an important part of sloughs history and some people like myself are just interested what is going on at the ground at this present time and hope it will one day be used again for football again by whoever. Is it really ok to remove a post just because the club doesn't like it,I thought this was an unofficial forum ??????

But those in the town that are against the new ground plans want us to go back to Wexham Park as that is already a football ground, and as you say part of our heritage. The population at large do not get the fact that it is not Slough Town's ground anymore. The more we as fans go on about the fact that it is being done up, and the pitch looked nice, etc it just plays into the oppositions hands. Why build a new ground when there is one already built being tarted up. If I living 90 miles away can see that this could harm the club's new ground bid, why can't you locals (excluding Cornish from this, as his was a genuine question from afar). I do not see it as the club saying we can not talk about the past, Hotspur does it all the time (LOL), just be careful what you say, as no one wants to blow our chances of our own ground.

Grandad nails it on the head.

I don't know why the original thread was locked, and I wasn't asked to do it myself. I'm not in favour of censorship, but know that the future of this club relies on a stadium we can call home. WP provides an unwelcome sideshow at the moment, and so if in some small way not openly discussing on this site a ground that ceased to be ours some 15 and a half years ago helps to move things in our favour, I can live with that.

Something quite poignant was said at the funeral of my uncle today that will live with me in many ways :

"Although it is good, and necessary to remember the past, we need to all look at, and concentrate on, the now and the future.

The past provides who we are now, and the future is what we can become.

In essence, it is good that we should remember the past, but it is essential that we use that to live in the present to enhance our future potentials"

I wasn't trying to stir up any thing I just had a genuine question to ask out of interest and just thought of asking fellow slough fans as someone connected may have the answer and they did. I've been watching slough on and off since 1998 and the last thing I would want to see is a return to wp

I can't believe the comments I have seen on this post. I think it is pathetic that the original post was locked.  All Cedric did was merely ask a question about what is happening to Wexham Park's roof as he drove past. What has this forum come to when we can't even talk about WP. So what if people talk about WP, is it not part of our history? Or do we just forget it? And just how can it affect our proposed new stadium? Do you really think that a question about the present state of our old ground and a couple of replies on it on an unofficial forum would really affect the council and government's decision? How can that be the case, I wasn't aware that WP was blocked off from public view, everyone can see it as they drive past or use the car park or go to the Sunday bootfare. So doesn't that mean that any of these people could come away with the view that 'oh what do they need a new ground for, theres one there having work done on it'? What's next, we can't talk about Stag Meadow anymore just in case that affects our chances of a new ground? It's just ridiculous.

We should be perfectly entitled to talk about our old ground, we have the freedom of speech. It is part of our heritage we had some good times there we should be allowed to talk about it on here, there is nothing slagging off the club in any way. And I can not see how a question on an unofficial forum should provoke such attitudes and end up being locked.

This forum should be open and allow fans the freedom to talk about all things connected with our present and our past, and we should not be denied the opportunity to post things on here in fear of what may or may not be harmful or upset people. Otherwise what is the point of this forum if you are only allowed to say certain types of things or else your posts get locked. What's next you end up being blocked?. It is pathetic.

for an unnofficial forum the club seems to take an inordinate control on what it wants to be said and by who,as for wexham park i'm sure that byron thorne thought that he could sll the site for houses or a shopping centre at a great profit, but he thought that without the difficulties of dealing with two councils , slough borough and south bucks as wexham park lies across the bounderies of both councils . now slough might give permission for such a development but south bucks guards its green belt jealously and as such had a proviso put in the original deed for the ground that only developments for the playing of ball sports thus the golf driving range was allowed as a change of purpose from the original use as a training ground and gym, and as mr thorne seems to dislike football and slough town football club, unless the ground changes hands we will never ever return there. this is history and unless we learn from this we can never hope to go forward.

Steve and the board + a few other people (council ect) are working hard to get Slough Town it's OWN ground, and all this talk of leaving Beaconsfield (RENTED) to move back to W/P (RENTED),So we would be in a worse position than what we are at the moment Is not helping at all.

Only people that would want to stop us getting our own ground would carry on saying these things.
