REFEREEEEEEE

Recommended Posts

Roughly speaking I think it costs is c.£150 a first team match. Might be a bit less. Reserves obviously less as no assistants, although we do pay our assistant for his troubles.

I'm not sure about the other divisions but pretty sure Mick Ewen allocates relatively local referees to limit expenses. One downfall of that is you tend to have the same referees frequently.

How much do the refs and assistant refs get paid? Expenses etc?

Match fee for Referees is between £26 and £30.

Match fee for Assistant Referees is between £23 and £25.

The fees vary due to the Division / Cup of the match.

Expense are 32p per mile

More joint travel in recent seasons for match officials has meant the expenses have been kept to a minimum.

I did my course when I was 14, quite enjoyed it and refereed youth football for a while. I got the middle in a youth county cup final a couple of years later. Gave up though when I got to 18 as wanted to keep playing.

It's not as easy as you might think. You only have moments to make a decision and that's not taking into account obstructed views and angles. Easy to look like a bad decision when in fact it wasn't clear. That's not to say some refs don't make bad decisions.

I know plenty of young refs that have up due to abuse though.
