Well that was better.

 

A comfortable win,although it has to be said 4-0 flattered us a bit. Camberley's finishing was as bad as it gets this afternoon.

 

With Ben Harris getting fitter every game the impact he is having on games is growing which can only be good. 2 very tidy finishes from George Gould which were great to see.

 

Kane Jones scored a cracking striker's goal, but man oh man, please calm down a bit.

 

Bit more robust than of late, some neat passing movement and good dribbling and skills to get excited about. 

 

Onwards and upwards.

 

Have to say I was a tad surprised to see Mick Woodham's reaction to my comments on recent games in the programme - I'm a supporter expressing views that's all. But I'm hardly faceless! Most of the committee do know me. In fact I get greeted at Stag Meadow as "Rother" more often than my real name, which is Bob.

 

Thing is you see, I'm quite happy talking "rubbish based on fiction" with other supporters about games - that's what supporters do. In my case, the vast majority of the rubbish I post has been (and I trust will continue to be) extremely positive about one and all.

 

Yes maybe we supporters do know bog all about what goes on in the background, the struggles, niggles and challenges that are faced day to day by the management and players and we are happy with that, but we do have opinions on what we see; nobody would deny us the right to express them in conversation with other fans and surely that extends to the Windsor FC Forum? That's what it's here for. Discussion about Windsor FC.

 

If I get rude or offensive towards anybody connected with the club then there's plenty around who will give me a deserved slap down I'm sure! (But I can assure you it won't happen.)

 

For me, I'm quite happy being a supporter at a small distance from the team. Ok, in effect I've been "called out" to come and discuss my views with Micky and Tony but you know what, I have no desire to be "in the know", and have no need to meet with the management to discuss my opinions. I feel involved enough from the distance I am to get the buzz I want from supporting my club. If that causes me to talk more rubbish than truth, then sobeit. 

 

In my experience people who discuss things with the players and management never feel fully at ease expressing their true opinions in an open and public forum thereafter and that freedom to speak honestly is, for me, part and parcel of supporting a team.

 

So, I am more than happy to apologise if I have caused a slight ripple in Micky Woodham's normally calm equilibrium but that's the way it is, and it's the way it's going to stay.

Back to the game......

 

I thought we started slowly and gained momentum as the game drew on. We had a couple of lucky escapes early on but by the end I thought the scoreline flattered Camberley. On that matter I was very disappointed with Camberley, they looked disjointed, lacking in enthusiasm and when we went 2-0 up seemed to just give up, something I have not seen a Micky Woodham team. A team can look poor, but what riles a fan most is when they can't be bothered and don't 100% efffort. 

 

Couple of other points, I was wondering what a Camberley player had to do to get a card of any colour, and how poor was their keeper. Worst of the season I would say.

 

As for Kane's goal, a real striker's movement to get across the last defender, he showed some excellent strength and he gave himself a free shot on goal or the defender brings him down and its a red card and maybe, if he can get in the box, a pen. And I would say, don't calm down lets see more of that youthful exuberance and energy on the pitch, they really don't like it up 'em and running down every ball puts defenders under unexpected pressure.

 

And well done to Dan hicks on a very accomplished penalty, I don't like short run ups but he placed it so well no one was going to get it.

 

Great result and well deserved, so I guess any crisis is over and we can get on with winning the league and the FA Vase...;-)

The scoreline flattered Camberley? Yes, their heads went down towards the end but overall they probably had as many clear cut chances as we did. Our finishing was pretty clinical today, theirs was useless.

 

I love his aggression, speed and persistence but Kane Jones needs to calm down in that I don't think yelling at your own players for not delivering the ball on a sixpence (more than once) after they'd done the hard work securing the winning position before he came on the pitch, is actually the best way to force your way into the team.

Opinions opinions!!! We shall have to differ as I thought we were not clinical at all, we looked lacking in the final delivery at times considering how much more of the ball we had. Georges first finish was delightful, the delivery to George for his second was sublime and shows that Ben is almost back to full fitness and the ball through for Kane was also good but not enough deliveries of that quality and we had chances when putting the laces through the ball would have (considering how poor the keeper appeared) resulted in a goal.

 

I know what you mean about Kane, but he is 17, he has come into a game that is pretty dead and he is still desperate to work hard, score a goal and frustrated when he doesn't get great service. He will learn how to fit into the team and not moan on the pitch, I seem to remember George telling him to get on with the game and chase the ball down as he moaned about one delivery, so his team mates obviously know to keep him in line too. But he wants to impress and show what he can do, so if he doesn't get the return ball he needs to prove how good he is, he will be frustrated.

 

I have more concerns about how long before Laza or Been pick up a red, so much talent but I worry when they chase a ball down or there is a 50-50 challenge, no retreat, no surrender.......

 

I would say that scoring twice from the bench with two good finishes is probably a better way of forcing your way into the team, unfortunately George keeps scoring so how do you replace him. Kane is the sort of quality we want on the bench and he will get his chance.

 

One thing I liked about the ref was when he shouted at Ben to get up and get on with it, I like refs you can hear and who tell the players to get up, get on with it, stop being silly etc etc

 

Also hope the player carried off is doing okay and a speedy recovery

Yes, opinions eh?  And this is what's good about a forum when people contribute. Shame there's not a few more of us these days!

 

Interesting that Tony didn't utter a word during the game today - just stood there and observed. And bugger me, the players all did their jobs!

Apart form the first 10 mins or so when we looked a bit jittery I thought the players looked confident. maybe it was nerves as it was the FA Vase?

 

The one thing we need to remember is how young these players are without an old head to help guide them in the middle of the park. 

 

Finally, and this is just my opinion. Considering our goals per game this season, and how many goals our forwards got last season, I still think we lack an out and out centre forward. That may sound greedy, but I sometimes think we lack someone in the box making the runs the wingers want to deliver to. But when you see the likes of Harris, Laza, Gould, Pearse,Lucas, Garstang, hicks etc bearing down on goal you often feel we will score, so maybe i am just asking for too much.

 

I feel confident our season will be good, what we will win I don't know, but the players seem up for it, the atmosphere at the club is great so why not?

I completely agree.

 

The confidence I expressed before the season started remains undimmed, namely that our squad is more than capable of winning this league.

 

And I still believe we will do just that.

I thought the scoreline flattered us in the end. If Camberley had a striker who could have hit the target, it would have ended up a lot closer. Was it only 5 minutes in when they hit the post? Throw in 3 goals for us in the last 15 minutes (taking into account stoppage time), then justification for flattery is there. Pleasing aspects were the way we passed the ball around. There were a number of neat triangles (Gary Neville eat your heart out) which totally threw the oppo. Goal of the game? Kane Jones without a doubt. Moan of the game? Attendance looked very sparse. Highlight of the day? Pies in the Snack Bar!!!

 

As for the officials, I think we have had some brilliant refereeing of late (Frimley Green being the exception as he was just odd). Yesterdays was happy to keep the game flowing and talking to players when he needed to. It was a cup tie so expect some robust challenges. These were well handled and dealt with.But as for the assistant on the stand side first half, he had a mare. It was so bad it was comical and by the end of the first half I reckon most were feeling sorry for him.
