Guernsey FC regrets to announce that the FA Cup with Budweiser 2nd Qualifying Round tie with Dover Athletic will not take place in Guernsey.

Under the FA terms that have been given to the club to allow GFC to participate in the FA Cup, all matches taking place in Guernsey must kick off at 1300 on a Saturday afternoon, unless the two teams can agree to an alternative kick off time. On the 28th September, the Guernsey Rugby Club has a home fixture due to kick off at 1430 and it cannot move its match, as the visiting rugby club is not staying in the island overnight.

Dover Athletic has advised that it’s unwilling to play on the Saturday evening. Its reason is that the club will not play on the pitch after a rugby match has taken place on it.

Guernsey FC has also offered for the fixture to be played as a Friday evening tie on 27th September, however Dover Athletic has advised that its players have insufficient time to arrange time off work for this date.

Dover Athletic has also refused to play the tie on Sunday 29th September.

This means to comply with the FA rules, GFC has to play the game in the UK.

More details will be released when the fixture is confirmed.

The FA, Dover, the weatherman, rugby, all of the above. Think of "spoilsport" as a sentiment rather than a focus of blame. Yes, Guernsey knew the situation when they entered the FA Cup, but I'm sure a proper home fixture against a Skrill side would've been the ideal when the draw came out. Even better if they win, but that's irrespective of where the game is played.

Dover will lose out on the split of gate money as Guernsey get great home support so a loss to them.  Would of thought they would have done all they can to play there to get some extra revenue to make up the loss due to the support going down at Crabble.  Heard they did not want to play there due to a Rugby match the day before and the pitch would be a mess.....can't see a problem with that as the ball is in the air most of the time and hardly touches the pitch

we will never know, but in fairness to dover - I would think that if it was margate-or indeed any other club faced with the same situation-the reaction would have been the same.

I am as guilty as anyone-but do we frequently lose sight of the fact that at this level-players and indeed club officials are part time-and do have other jobs and lives to lead ?

5 wins and a draw on the road according to the BBC, so perhaps Guernsey will benefit from all this, and earn an even bigger ticket draw in the next round, hopefully at home again.

Football at this level often also boils down to the fans as they are the life and soul of a club, especially in the case of Guernsey. It's a shame the chance for the first FA Cup tie to be played on the island, and the draw it could have, now won't tale place there.

Wigan ground share with rugby so top level clubs can make it work.

pretty long odds against it, and a lot of things would need to fall into place'but not totally impossible for that 'bigger ticket draw 'to be against Margate
