Chris Clapham
I find it incredible that, on the one hand, the FA fund 3G or 4G pitches yet the FA Premier league are against them. Well sod them; the Football League should adopt such pitches as the Scottish FA have. Wood played at Maidstone last season and the players said the surface was true, with a realistic bounce and a pleasure to play on. Must be better for good football than a mud bath? Nobody is more of a traditionalist than I am but, at 54 years of age, even I can see the full benefits of going down this route, especially for "community clubs"! Smudge
As I posted on another thread regarding this.Would be nice to know if the writer got a reply.Excellent article, even phoned a couple of Daily's to see if they dare cover the article.Mr Dyke and his cohorts are just MUPPETS,with the Premier League pulling their strings, the same Mr Dyke has 4 jobs,to busy to attend anything related to Football. Then we have that Clown of a Ref Mr Moss, who made a massive error last Saturday, which silenced even Mr Holloway, for fear of another large Fine. The F.A. live in the Dark Ages, although they encourage the masses to bet,but players are banned.Reason they get MASSIVE Sponsorship from the BOOKMAKERS running into Millions. Don't Blame Me
I still struggle to come to terms with the fact that UEFA have sanctioned artificial pitches (Champions League final in Moscow) yet the FA choose to bury their heads in the sand. Artificial pitches are a million miles removed from the first ones used in the 1980s at Luton, QPR, Preston and Oldham. I played on Luton's pitch once and it was not a wonderful experience. It was like playing indoors with the surface comprised of sandpaper. Times, and technology have changed. Playing on a true and consistent surface can only benefit those that play and watch. Postponements for waterlogging and frozen pitches would be reduced dramatically helping clubs with cash flow. Throw iin the obvious community benefits and it really is a no brainer. VPCTFC
I still struggle to come to terms with the fact that UEFA have sanctioned artificial pitches (Champions League final in Moscow) yet the FA choose to bury their heads in the sand. The FA are in favour of them - as Chris said, they'll even help fund them. It's the Premier League clubs that are putting up the obstacles which have filtered down a few divisions. They're allowed in FA Competitions but only until the point when league clubs join in. There was some abiguity about 3G pitches in the Standardised Rules used in the pyramid so last season the FA said they'd sort it out by rewording the relevant section and making it clear they're allowed up to step 1, which is what they wanted. It looks like they didn't get it all their own way though as this season's rules only give them FA clearance up to step 3. At steps 1 & 2 it's still a decision the Conference can make.
